Who:
A growing residential construction company is seeking a hands-on Controller with strong construction accounting expertise to lead the accounting department and supervise a team of five.

Position Overview:

The Controller will oversee all financial and accounting functions for a growing residential construction organization. This individual will provide leadership to a team of five while remaining actively involved in day-to-day accounting operations. The ideal candidate will bring extensive residential construction accounting experience, strong job costing capabilities, and expertise managing subcontractor financial processes.

Key Responsibilities:

● Lead, mentor, and develop a team of five accounting professionals.
● Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and close processes.
● Manage all aspects of residential construction accounting, including WIP reporting and revenue recognition.
● Maintain accurate job costing for custom homes, production homes, renovations, and community developments.
● Monitor project profitability and provide financial analysis to leadership.
● Manage subcontractor accounting, including contracts, retainage, lien waivers, insurance compliance, and payment processing.
● Oversee cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting, and banking relationships.
● Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures.
● Partner with construction operations teams to improve financial performance and project outcomes.
● Coordinate audits, tax reporting, and relationships with external financial partners.
● Drive process improvements and maximize accounting system efficiencies.

Qualifications:

● Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
● 7+ years of accounting experience within residential construction, homebuilding, or related construction environments.
● Previous Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or Senior Construction Accountant experience preferred.
● Strong expertise in job costing and project-based accounting.
● Extensive experience managing subcontractor accounting and compliance requirements.
● Proven experience supervising accounting staff.
● Knowledge of WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion accounting, and residential construction financial reporting.
● Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
● CPA designation is a plus but not required.
● Experience with construction accounting software and ERP systems preferred.
