The Configuration Management Specialist will support the development of innovative engineering designs and solutions for a wide variety of applications. The Configuration Management Specialist is responsible for configuration management (CM) of engineering artifacts, including the assignment, tracking, review, and release of configuration items (CIs) across design milestones and fabrication. This role works closely with a growing team of engineers and designers at Applied Technology Solutions, Inc. (ATS) to maintain an accurate configuration baseline and ensure all technical data meets internal and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute, maintain, and refine configuration management processes, procedures, and standards.
  • Assign and track configuration items (CIs) from origination through approval and release in support of program design milestones and fabrication activities.
  • Manage the progression of CIs through workflows in SolidWorks Product Data Management (PDM), ensuring that all engineering data and deliverables are properly stored, linked, and controlled.
  • Perform final review of engineering documentation, including Drawings, Procedures, Specifications, and Bills of Material (BOMs), to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with engineering and technical data standards.
  • Oversee the assignment, approval, and release of engineering deliverables, working closely with project Systems Engineers and other technical leads.
  • Coordinate and support customer-facing Configuration Control Board (CCB) activities, including preparation of change packages and disposition of change requests.
  • Review outgoing CIs for alignment with the approved configuration baseline and required features, in accordance with internal processes and customer-imposed configuration management requirements.
  • Review configuration management–related Statements of Work (SOWs) prior to contract award to ensure alignment with technical, programmatic, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement of configuration management tools, workflows, and documentation to enhance data integrity and traceability.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in configuration management, data management, or a closely related engineering support role.
  • Hands-on experience with configuration management software, preferably SolidWorks Product Data Management (PDM), or similar Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) / Product Data Management (PDM) tools.
  • Familiarity with engineering documentation, including drawings, BOMs, specifications, and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple configuration items and changes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret DoD Security Clearance; active Secret DoD Clearance strongly preferred.
  • U.S. person status required (U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum) in accordance with export control regulations.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience as a PDM Administrator and/or with implementing and maintaining PDM workflows.
  • Experience developing engineering drawings and related engineering documentation in a mechanical or systems engineering environment.
  • Experience performing engineering drawing checking for accuracy, standards compliance, and completeness.
  • Experience supporting systems engineering life cycle management, including requirements traceability and change control.
  • Familiarity with configuration management standards and best practices in a DoD or aerospace/defense environment.

Work Environment and Culture

At ATS, you will join a growing, collaborative team of engineers, designers, and technical professionals who are committed to solving challenging engineering problems for our customers. The Configuration Management Specialist plays a visible role in enabling high-quality designs, ensuring data integrity, and supporting successful program execution.
