Job description

Summary

Position is ultimately responsible for all aspects of process control within the operating units. Aspects including contract work, in-house configuration, operational needs, upgrades, control loop troubleshooting, loop tuning, HMI (Human Machine Interface), etc.

FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. DCS (Distributed Control Systems) administration and coordination including:

DCS involved projects and/or control system modifications

Software and hardware upgrades

Diagnostic monitoring of system

Image and project backups

Testing of configurations

Interface with factory rep on maintenance visits

Maintain spare parts and hot standby system

History backups and maintenance

Monitor DCS network for communication errors

2. Regulatory control loop tuning.

3. APC (Advanced Process Control) and historian support (if applicable).

4. Operations support runtime and during unit startup/shutdown.

5. PLC (Programmable Logic Control) /HMI administration and coordination of but not limited to:

PLC/MMI involved projects and/or control system modifications

Maintain PLC/HMI software programs and database documents

Provide technical support to maintenance on PLC/HMI troubleshooting

Program PLC/HMI for projects/controls

Software and hardware upgrades

Maintain spare parts and hot standby systems

6. Provide guidance to keep interlock and Emergency Shutdown System matrix current.

7. Troubleshoot respective Unit's sustained control automation problems.

8. Attend hazard reviews with production for project implementation/controls reviews.

9. Provided technical support to I&C maintenance concerning automation systems.

Additional Duties

1. Perform the primary thinking encompassed by this job description.

3. Fully supports Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management as well as active participation on project teams.

4. Any additional responsibilities or tasks as assigned.

5. Perform duties in a manner that protects personal safety as well as the safety of others. Promptly report Safety, Health or Environmental issues or incidents to management.

Minimum Qualifications

A current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.

B.S. Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Chemical or related engineering discipline.

5 years' experience with Automation/DCS/PLC projects in chemical/petrochemical/refinery plant.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This job is performed mainly in a control room or office setting. Physical presence and predictable attendance required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. This job requires response to audible emergency alarms inside of the plant. Employee must be able to evacuate when required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
