This role requires deep knowledge of electrical distribution systems, conduit installation, grounding, bonding, and power delivery for access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, and other integrated security platforms.
The Lead Electrician operates with a high degree of independence, ensures all electrical work meets code and GC&E quality standards, and collaborates closely with Project Managers, technicians, subcontractors, and other trades to support successful project execution. This individual is responsible for maintaining safety, quality, and efficiency across all assigned work.
Essential Job Functions:
• Install, maintain, modify, and repair electrical distribution systems, branch circuits, grounding systems, and associated electrical equipment.
• Install conduit systems (EMT, rigid, flexible), pull boxes, junction boxes, electrical panels, disconnects, and switches in accordance with NEC and project specifications.
• Provide electrical infrastructure to support access control, intrusion detection, CCTV, intercom, and other electronic security systems.
• Install data cabling, outlets, patch panels, and related components; perform terminations, labeling, testing, and documentation.
• Coordinate daily activities with Project Managers, technicians, subcontractors, and other trades to ensure efficient workflow and schedule alignment.
• Interpret construction drawings, electrical diagrams, risers, and specifications; identify discrepancies and recommend field appropriate solutions.
• Maintain strict adherence to GC&E safety standards, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and compliance with job site safety requirements.
• Provide daily reporting to the Project Manager, including progress updates, material needs, risks, and field conditions.
• Ensure all electrical work meets NEC, local code requirements, GC&E quality standards, and customer expectations.
• Support quality control efforts by reviewing installations, verifying workmanship, and ensuring proper documentation.
• Mentor junior electricians and technicians, demonstrating proper installation techniques, safety practices, and professional conduct.
• Perform additional duties assigned by management to support project and organizational objectives.
Candidate Requirements:
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 7-10 years of commercial electrical installation experience, preferably supporting low-voltage or security-related systems.
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents, electrical diagrams, and technical specifications.
• Strong understanding of NEC requirements and safe electrical work practices.
• Ability to install conduit systems, pull wire, terminate circuits, and support electrical infrastructure for security systems.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required hand tools for electrical work.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively with PMs, technicians, subcontractors, and customers.
• Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug screenings and background checks.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Preferred Experience & Certifications:
Experience or certifications with the following manufacturers are a plus:
• Experience installing electrical infrastructure to support electronic security systems, including but not limited to access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, and other low-voltage systems.
• Familiarity with low-voltage cabling standards (BICSI exposure is a plus).
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Journeyman Electrician license (preferred depending on jurisdiction).
• Experience coordinating with low-voltage/security installation teams.
• Experience installing conduit, power supplies, and dedicated circuits for security systems.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions (heat, cold, humidity, etc.).
• Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and working on ladders or lifts.
• Ability to use PPE and work safely around electrical and construction environments.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle and work in physically demanding conditions for extended periods.
