Position:ADVISOR, PERFORMANCE SCIENCES, RESEARCH & INNOVATION

Reports to:Directly to the Vice-President, Performance Sciences, Research & Innovation

Location: Fully remote within Canada and some domestic travel may be required. Must be flexible for evening/weekend commitments as needed.

Scope of Position:

Reporting to the Vice-President, Performance Sciences, Research & Innovation (PSRI), the Advisor, PSRI, provides expertise, assistance, and guidance to targeted Olympic and Paralympic sports in the ongoing implementation and assessment of performance sciences service delivery. In addition, the individual will provide guidance to national sporting organizations regarding the development of applied sport research projects and engage in monitoring of targeted projects. This position is highly collaborative with its partners and colleagues to ensure performance sciences, research and innovation deliverables are aligned with the objectives of the national sporting organization.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Advise targeted sports and/or selected practitioners in performance sciences, research and innovation, and the planning and periodization of training.
  2. Participate in evaluating, developing, and advising on selected individual sport plans for enhanced PSRI-specific advisory work including on-site mentorship, assessments, recommendations, and reports in collaboration with OTP High Performance Advisors (HPA)
  3. Support HPAs in the assessment and tracking of national sports organizations in specific program areas, such as performance gap analysis, athlete profiling, Integrated Support Team (IST) structures and effectiveness, and research and innovation.
  4. Translate research findings into actionable insights and practical recommendations.
  5. Provide guidance and support to national sporting organizations in the development of annual research and innovation plans.
  6. Evaluate national sport organization research and innovation plans, prepare reports and analysis, and recommend funding allocation.
  7. Provide expert advice and guidelines related to performance sciences to NSOs for major Games' preparation, as requested by COC.
  8. Provide guidance and support to national sport organizations in assessing and/or implementing technology innovation supporting athlete performance.
  9. Participate in national sport organization and CSI hiring committees of potential sport scientists, as requested.
  10. Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and stay abreast of the latest research and innovation in performance sciences.
  11. Contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and best practices through presentations, workshops, publications, and participation in national and international conferences.
  12. May participate and/or lead national working groups/committees/councils or programs that connect to or oversee national policies, guidelines and/or best practices related to performance sciences.
  13. Participate in internal cross-functional working groups and projects, as required.
  14. Review, recommend and implement work processes and/or policies for efficient operations of the department.
  15. Other related duties as assigned.

Education

  • Completion of a PhD or Master's degree in Kinesiology or Engineering Sciences, or a related field

AND

  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience working in the Olympic, or Paralympic or high-performance sport environment
  • OR
  • At least 5 years of experience in conducting applied research and translating results into practice for the sport environment.

Principales responsabilites

  1. Conseiller les sports cibles et/ou les praticiens selectionnes dans les domaines des sciences de la performance, de la recherche et de l'innovation, ainsi que de la planification et de la periodisation de l'entrainement.
  2. Participer a l'evaluation et a l'elaboration de plans sportifs individuels selectionnes, ainsi qu'a la prestation de conseils specialises en SPRI, notamment incluant le mentorat sur le terrain, les evaluations, les recommandations et la production de rapports, en collaboration avec les conseillers en sport de haute performance (CHP) d'ANP.
  3. Appuyer les CHP dans l'evaluation et le suivi des organismes nationaux de sport dans des domaines de programme precis, notamment l'analyse des ecarts de performance, le profilage des athletes, les structures et l'efficacite des equipes integrees de soutien (EIS), ainsi que la recherche et l'innovation.
  4. Transformer les resultats de recherche en informations exploitables et en recommandations pratiques.
  5. Fournir des conseils et du soutien aux organismes nationaux de sport dans l'elaboration de plans annuels de recherche et d'innovation.
  6. Evaluer les plans de recherche et d'innovation des organismes nationaux de sport, preparer des rapports et des analyses et formuler des recommandations concernant l'allocation du financement.
  7. Fournir aux ONS, a la demande du COC, des conseils d'expert et des lignes directrices en matiere de sciences de la performance pour la preparation aux Jeux multisports.
  8. Fournir des conseils et du soutien aux organismes nationaux de sport dans l'evaluation et/ou la mise en uvre d'innovations technologiques visant a soutenir la performance des athletes.
  9. Participer, a la demande des ONS, aux comites de selection charges de l'embauche de scientifiques du sport potentiels au sein des ONS et des Institut canadien du sport (ICS).
  10. Effectuer des revues de litterature approfondies et se tenir au fait des plus recentes avancees en matiere de recherche et d'innovation dans le domaine des sciences de la performance.
  11. Contribuer a la diffusion des connaissances et des pratiques exemplaires au moyen de presentations, d'ateliers, de publications et de la participation a des conferences nationales et internationales.
  12. Peut participer et/ou assurer la direction de groupes de travail, de comites, de conseils ou de programmes nationaux lies aux politiques, aux lignes directrices et/ou aux pratiques exemplaires nationales en matiere de sciences de la performance, ou qui en assurent la supervision.
  13. Participer aux groupes de travail et aux projets interfonctionnels internes, au besoin.
  14. Examiner, recommander et mettre en uvre des processus de travail et/ou des politiques visant a assurer l'efficacite des operations du service.

Formation

  • Diplome de doctorat ou maitrise en kinesiologie. en sciences de l'ingenierie, ou dans un domaine connexe

ET

  • Au moins 3 a 5 ans d'experience de travail dans un environnement sportif olympique, paralympique ou de haute performance

OU

  • Au moins 5 ans d'experience dans la realisation de recherches appliquees et la mise en pratique des resultats dans le milieu sportif.
