Description

 Bierman Autism Centers specializes in providing early intensive behavioral intervention in a center -based model with a multi-disciplinary approach. Position Description:


We are looking for a center-based Postdoctoral Fellow to join our team in New Jersey to assist with conducting diagnostic evaluations for children who may have autism. The postdoctoral fellow will be immersed into a comprehensive learning environment under the mentorship of our experienced Diagnostician and Licensed Psychologist. During the fellowship, trainees will receive extensive training on various diagnostic measures as well as interpersonal assessment skills essential when engaging with families and young children with developmental disabilities. 


Fellows will learn the intricacies of conducting assessments and report writing. A pivotal part of this fellowship will be learning to effectively communicate diagnosis information to families, supporting them throughout the process and properly addressing their need and concerns. Fellows will also be trained to write diagnostic reports that influence and inform ABA treatment plans. 

Key Responsibilities: 


Under the close supervision of a licensed psychologist, the fellow would: 

  • Conduct autism spectrum assessment, analyze and interpret data, write evaluation reports, and review results with families.
  • Design and implement parent support sessions that meets both individual and group needs for parents of newly diagnosed children.
  • Design and implement parent and sibling groups for current clients.
  • Consults with parents concerning the needs of client as required.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, and other documents as required.
  • Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team of other experienced individuals, including BCBAs, Occupational Therapists, and Speech and Language Pathologists. 

Requirements

Job Requirements :

  • Has completed a Psy.D. or Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology or related discipline from an educational institution recognized by the NJ Board of Psychological Examiners
  • Must meet all eligibility requirements related to the NJ Borad of Psychology for future licensure as listed in N.J.A.C. 13:42-2.1 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Efficient organizational, time management and prioritization skills
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations in New Jersey 

Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to lift and carry clients who are least 30 pounds
  • Must be willing and able to restrain/hold/transport and utilize quick body movements in the course of working with children with challenging behavior
  • Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures including kneeling, squatting, crouching, crawling, sitting, standing, bending, for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to walk and run to chase clients and maintain a three-foot distance at all times
  • Must be able to sit on the floor or stand for extended periods of time
  • Must have manual dexterity to perform specific computer and electronic device functions for data collection
  • Must have visual acuity to read and comprehend written communication though computer, electronic devices, and paper means.
  • Must be able to take written data and transfer to electronic files or data base systems
  • Must be able to maintain prolonged periods of working on a computer while sitting at a desk
