What this job involves:
This internship position offers hands-on training and development for individuals looking to build a career in HVAC systems maintenance and operations. Working directly with JLL's experienced HVAC technicians, you'll learn essential technical skills through practical application while supporting our facilities management teams. This role provides a structured pathway to understand commercial building systems, preventative maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting techniques in a professional environment.
Your day-to-day tasks will include:
- Shadow and assist experienced HVAC technicians during routine maintenance, repairs, and system inspections to develop practical technical skills
- Participate in preventative maintenance procedures for various HVAC equipment including air handlers, chillers, boilers, and control systems
- Learn to read and interpret mechanical drawings, building plans, and equipment specifications
- Assist in diagnosing HVAC system issues using proper testing equipment and troubleshooting methodologies
- Document maintenance activities, parts usage, and system performance in facility management systems
- Support energy efficiency initiatives by learning to monitor system performance and identify optimization opportunities
- Participate in safety training and consistently apply proper safety procedures while working with mechanical equipment
- Attend technical training sessions to build knowledge of HVAC theory, system design, and emerging technologies
- Collaborate with other facilities team members to understand how HVAC systems integrate with overall building operations
Desired experience and technical skills:
Requirements:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed education in HVAC, mechanical engineering, facilities management, or related technical field
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical concepts
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Good communication abilities and eagerness to learn
- Ability to follow safety protocols and technical instructions
- Willingness to work in various environments (mechanical rooms, rooftops, occupied spaces)
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Obtain a refrigerant license as part of the internship
Preferred:
- Previous exposure to building maintenance, construction, or mechanical systems
- Familiarity with building automation systems or controls
- Basic computer skills for documentation and research purposes
- Knowledge of energy efficiency principles
- Experience reading technical documentation or diagrams
- OSHA 10-hour certification or other relevant safety training
