Job description

Are we the road to your future?

We are currently searching for an experienced Senior Drainage Engineer to support our Southeast Region located in any of our Florida offices.

To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Collecting and analyzing data for inclusion in Project Plans and reports
  • Using computer engineering software to design stormwater management and storm drain systems, as well as soil erosion and sediment control systems
  • Analyzing and designing hydrologic and hydraulic models for Transportation Improvement projects
  • Permitting with different Regulatory and Water Management agencies
  • Assisting and preparing project plans using the latest CADD software including but not limited to MicroStation, OpenRoads, Civil3D, and/or AutoCADD, among others
  • Contributing to the preparation and/or modification of considerable scope and complexity engineering reports and calculations for a wide variety of projects
  • Preparing and assisting in the preparation of project construction details, quantities, cost estimates and project specifications
  • Reviewing project quantity estimates, details, and check calculations and drawings for compliance to project requirements
  • Preparing and assisting with the preparation of project schedules
  • Collaborating across multiple disciplines, subconsultants, and other professionals to successfully deliver quality projects within budget and schedule
  • Overseeing project design activities, supervising production efforts, and mentoring junior level support staff and other designers
  • Performing other professional, management, marketing and networking duties as assigned

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering (Master’s in water resources fields a plus)
  • Valid Professional Engineering Licensure (P.E.) in Florida required
  • 5 - 10 years of relative/progressive drainage/water resources and FDOT experience
  • Experience with MicroStation, Geopak, Civil3D, Storm CAD, ORD, ICPR, HEC-RAS, GIS and/or SUDA software
  • Previous FDOT Drainage design experience and strong knowledge of FDOT standards and procedures
  • Previous experience with Florida DEP and Water Management Districts
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
  • Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
