We are looking for experienced data scientists/engineers with a broad set of technical skills to take on problems across including:
  • Applied research across multiple mission domains
  • Solving Broad Data Science Problems
  • Machine Learning / Deep Learning Modeling and Algorithm Development
  • Prototyping and pathfinding new concepts to solve technology challenges which mitigate risk and provide future solutions for projects
  • Image and signal processing, computer vision application and research
  • Uncertainty Quantification for MLDL and other algorithms in high-consequence applications
  • Growth and focus in data analysis across a number of sources including remote sensing, systems testers, and microscopes

On any given day the selected candidate may be called on to:
  • Be a member of a group of researchers/engineers working to solve difficult scientific problems for national security purposes
  • Apply state-of-the art techniques which solve the most challenging data analysis problems for a wide array of customers.

Salary Range
$117,500 - $235,700
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q and SCI clearance.

Qualifications We Desire
The ideal R&D S&E, Data Science candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:
  • Graduate degree in a relevant computationally-intensive discipline where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
  • Experience in developing software for enterprise and national security applications.
  • Experience acquiring, preparing, and analyzing real world data.
  • Demonstrated software development skills and familiarity with modern software development practices.
  • Proven ability to work and communicate effectively in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment.

Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:
  • Space Domain background.
  • Experience in researching and developing solutions in the areas of Space Situational Awareness (SSA) and Space Control (SC).

About Our Team
The Perceptive Systems department specializes in the exploration, development, and analysis of emergent and disruptive technologies in computer science to solve complex problems. We bring to bear diverse expertise in mission analysis, software engineering, web services, big data management and visualization, image processing, machine learning, and modeling and simulation, which are applied to a myriad of sensor data processing challenges across the laboratory. Our research and capabilities drive innovative solutions in big data understandability, providing tools for analysis and visualization that help customers make decisions.
Posting Duration

Security Clearance
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.
