Feeling energized to make a meaningful impact on the world? Then keep reading - you've come to the right place.
Role Description
As a Senior Vision Engineer on our Operations Sustaining team, you will play a critical role in designing, prototyping, commissioning, and supporting machine vision solutions to enable automated quality control in our continuous manufacturing processes. You will own the implementation of end-to-end inspection systems, balancing software development, lighting, and optics design to ensure demanding part specifications are met without sacrificing line speed. In this role, you will partner cross-functionally to transform inline vision data into real-time quality feedback loops for upstream equipment, directly driving production yields upward. Your technical expertise and practical troubleshooting will be central to optimizing our high-volume assembly lines, ensuring every component meets the rigorous standards required for grid-scale stability and reliability.
What you'll do:
  • Architect, design, and prototype industrial machine vision systems tailored to complex dimensional and surface quality inspection requirements.
  • Develop, test, and optimize custom lighting and optics configurations to capture high-resolution imagery across diverse material surfaces.
  • Program, refine, and deploy robust vision algorithms and software applications utilizing C++, C#, and/or Python.
  • Validate inspection system performance by executing thorough repeatability and reproducibility studies, measurement uncertainty analyses, and gauge tolerance evaluations to eliminate quality escapes.
  • Integrate vision software and hardware systems seamlessly with factory PLC and HMI automation platforms.
  • Transform raw inline vision data into meaningful quality feedback metrics to steer and optimize upstream manufacturing processes.
  • Provide expert on-the-floor troubleshooting and diagnostic support to maximize system uptime and continuous improvement on active production lines.

What you'll bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of practical engineering experience within a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing or production development environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with advanced inline quality inspection modalities, such as 2D area scan, 2D linescan, 3D profilometers, 3D measurement lasers, or industrial X-ray/CT systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of statistical quality and reliability metrics, including process capability, alpha and beta risks, and confusion matrices.
  • Applied experience analyzing industrial process data using tools like SQL, JMP, Minitab, or IBA.
  • Excellent technical communication skills and an appreciation for collaborative, cross-functional teamwork.

Where you'll work:
This role is based at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV-an easy commute from the city of Pittsburgh, PA. This 550,000-square-foot facility is our hub for high-volume battery production and a leader in the new era of American energy manufacturing. Relocation assistance is available.
#LI-Onsite
Humanity is a cornerstone of Form Energy's culture, and we make sure our compensation and benefits reflect that. Form Energy offers competitive salaries, stock options, and a holistic benefits package to ensure all employees have what they need to thrive while working here.
When it comes to you and your family's health, we cover 100% of medical, dental, and vision premiums for full-time employees - and 80% of healthcare premiums for dependents. This starts from day one. We also offer at least 12 weeks of paid leave for new parents (up to 20 weeks for birthing parents), and generous vacation policies to give employees time to recharge when needed.
To build America's energy future, we need everyone at the table. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer, and encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply to our open jobs.
If you may require reasonable accommodations to participate in our interview process, please contact accommodations@formenergy.com. Requests for accommodations will be treated with discretion.
Form Energy is committed to maintaining the privacy of our applicants. Please be aware that we will never solicit sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers or bank account details during the recruiting or hiring process.
