Job description

The Sr. CAD Survey Technician works with various members of the surveying project team to deliver on time and accurate survey projects. They should be proficient working within an AutoCAD environment to develop plan sets, detail drawings, calculations and redline comments. This position requires a detailed, process-oriented person. The work is done mostly in the office with occasional travel out into the field.

Essential Functions

  • Efficiently plans and prepares CAD drawings using Civil 3D for a broad range of projects including topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, boundary surveys, subdivision plats, construction staking surveys, etc.
  • Understands advanced CAD principles and techniques regarding scaling, geographic coordinate systems, plans, profiles, cross-sections, details, dimensioning, annotations, external references, block management, 3D modeling, etc.
  • Creates and interprets 3D surface models, triangulated irregular networks, and contours
  • Prepares construction staking data for field crews using construction plan sets
  • Creates points, centerlines, and profiles for construction staking
  • Processes and interprets survey data collected in the field
  • Performs research and gathers data for new and ongoing projects
  • Maintains and organizes digital and paper survey records
  • Communicates with the Project Surveyor or Project Manager before, during and after completion of CAD work to properly relay information on status
  • Understands advanced GIS environment and file formats and is able to apply them to the CAD environment, or export/adapt CAD formats into GIS environment when necessary
  • Able to interpret complex CAD drawings from multiple sources
  • Sets up file structures to manage CAD drawing production in accordance with BHC standards
  • Performs quality control to reduce common mistakes before submittal for higher-level review
  • Possesses the ability to maintain multiple projects concurrently and understands how to assign priority to each in order to maintain deadlines
  • This position is regularly scheduled for 40 hours per week and will have overtime as needed

Position Requirements

Experience

  • 3+ years survey CAD experience
  • Demonstrated interest in continuing education (ex. CST)
  • A valid drivers license must be maintained and insurable
  • Survey operations and survey equipment experience is preferred

Skills

  • Must develop proficiency with data collectors and total stations (conventional and robotic)
  • Must understand algebra, trigonometry and geometry

Education

  • A high school diploma or equivalent required
  • CAD or geospatial industry degree preferred
