Xcel Energy has an opportunity for a long-term internship within the Operation Technology (OT) Support organization. This unique internship will offer access to work with the IT-OT Modernization (NSP/SPS - EMS Team). The successful candidate will gain insight and exposure to the SCADA EMS construction project work. Over the course of 18 months (20-40 hours weekly), the intern will learn and work on specific requirements within the EMS DB Team.
IT-OT Modernization Organization- The intern will develop skills for technical understanding of SCADA systems and EMS architecture and provide support with construction project implementation, daily tasks and needs of Transmission Operations as well as Commercial Operations teams.


This position is for a summer 2026. These positions may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship's initial term based on the candidate's successful performance and Xcel's business needs.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Current student, Sophomore or above.

  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in the field of computer science, management information systems, computer engineering, engineering, mathematics, analytics, or business.

  • Able to commute to the Lookout Center in Golden, CO.

  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the spring (up to 20 hours a week)

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)

  • Strong work ethic and initiative.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must be able to prioritize tasks and has better organization skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High academic standing - GPA of 3.0 or higher.
