Position: Senior Systems Engineer (Remote)

Position Overview

The Senior Systems Engineer plays a critical role at Advantage Technologies with two primary responsibilities:

  1. Designing, planning, implementing, and supporting complex networks and computer systems
  2. Maintaining clear documentation for system standards, procedures, and best practices

This role supports a wide range of technologies including servers, workstations, firewalls, switches, access points, backup systems, and various software applications. You will primarily handle advanced configurations such as multi-site setups, VPNs, Fiber/MPLS/Metro-E connections, VLANs, Active Directory design, Hyper-V replication, DFS synchronization, and similar enterprise-level solutions.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Systems Engineer works directly with internal teams and clients, reporting to the Service Team Manager, and is responsible for the following:

  • Serve as a technical resource for the Service Team to implement and configure complex systems including but not limited to:
    • Domain and Active Directory setup and migrations
    • Group Policy configuration
    • VPN setup and management
    • Microsoft platforms (Azure, Entra, Office 365, etc)
    • Advanced routing and networking
  • Assist the Support Team with escalated tickets requiring senior-level expertise.
  • Develop, define, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for system deployments and standards, including:
    • Policies and best practices
    • Minimum required configurations
    • Step-by-step guides for recurring tasks
  • Act as a subject matter expert for key client technologies such as:
    • UniFi
    • SonicWALL
    • Microsoft 365 suite of products (including Azure, Entra, Intune, etc)
    • Virtualization platforms
    • Cloud solutions
  • Collaborate with the Service Team Manager to identify and implement process improvements to increase team efficiency and productivity.
  • Support the Sales Team by reviewing complex system proposals and advising on implementation feasibility.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients and internal teams.
  • Self-starter capable of working independently and managing multiple priorities.
  • Proven experience working with small businesses in the professional services industry.
  • Deep technical knowledge of Windows-based networks and system setups

Technical Proficiency

Ability to design, configure, deploy, and troubleshoot:

  • Networking hardware: switches, firewalls, access points
  • LAN/WAN routing
  • Multi-site connectivity using:
    • Business-class internet
    • Point-to-Point
    • Metro Ethernet
    • MPLS
    • Fiber connections
  • Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and basic OU structures
  • User accounts, file permissions, shared drives, and network printers
  • Various business software applications, including working with vendor support
  • Server components such as RAID, iDRAC, and Dell OpenManage
  • Virtualization (especially Hyper-V) and replication/migration strategies
  • Microsoft 365 platform (focus on email and apps), including migrations from other platforms
  • Backup strategies and common data protection practices

Certifications (Preferred but Not Required)

  • Microsoft Networking Certifications
  • Microsoft Server Certifications
  • Microsoft Cloud Certifications

Compensation Plan: The position is salary plus benefits, profit sharing, retirement plan, and an expense account. The salary is evaluated each year at your annual review, and there are great growth opportunities with our team. Compensation includes:

  • A quiet, distraction free home office.

Probationary Period: The first 90 days of employment is considered to be probationary and a training period. The probationary period will be considered complete (possibly ahead of 90 days), if the individual can demonstrate satisfactory results in the key responsibility areas listed above.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
