THE ROLE:
An exciting opportunity for a memory systems design engineer within the client and graphics platform engineering team at our Austin Site. Our team's mission is to qualify and deliver cutting-edge memory technologies that accelerate next-generation computing experiences for the PCs, gaming, data center, artificial intelligence, and embedded products at AMD. This memory systems engineer will take the lead and drive the work with internal engineering teams and external partners in an exciting lab environment to enable, debug and qualify the latest memory technologies such as LPDDR5x/6, DDR5, GDDR6/7 coming to the market for use with leading edge AMD SOC's. The team fosters and encourages continuous technical innovation to showcase successes as well as facilitate continuous career development.
THE PERSON:
We are looking for an Engineer who is highly technical and detail-oriented, possessing good communication, strong analytical and problem-solving skills involving post-silicon debug and pre-silicon issues.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide systems engineering and post-silicon support for DDR/LPDDR/GDDR Memory interface IP.
  • Lead Pre-Silicon engagement preparing test plans, reviewing simulation results, preparing tools, automation scripts and BIOS readiness for post Si validation working closely with PHY/controller design, SI/PI, Simulation, Firmware and BIOS teams.
  • Lead new products bring-up support from first silicon in the lab through initial production.
  • Drive cross functional teams supporting feature enablement, feature optimization and characterization efforts
  • Lead the system-level debug and root cause analysis to narrow down the issues to various HW/SW blocks and drive multi-functional engineering efforts to root cause of sightings and verification of fixes with teams in ATE, Platform, design, diagnostics, firmware, BIOS and drive
  • Supporting issues on customer platforms as requested by customer support team

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Deep knowledge of DRAM, Memory controller and PHY architecture and design concepts
  • Understanding platform level signal integrity and power integrity technologies a definite asset
  • Familiarity with industry-standard high-speed protocols, and test methodologies
  • High-speed I/O design experience, including understanding of Tx (transceiver), Rx (Receiver), PLL (phase lock loop)/DLL, Clocking, Equalization techniques and circuits, Training algorithms and Firmware
  • Knowledge of computer hardware architecture (GPU, CPU/APU, memory and bus logic technologies) and software architecture (driver, bios, firmware usage)
  • Hands-on debug experience with GPU/APU, motherboards, memory interface, bus logic a definite asset
  • Familiarity with industry-standard high-speed memory IO protocols, and test methodologies
  • Laboratory experience, including hands-on use of equipment: Oscilloscopes, Signal generators, BERT, Logic analyzers, etc.
  • Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Programming/software development knowledge with experience with scripting languages such as Ruby/Python/Perl.
  • Critical thinking skills, Excellent organizational and communication skills.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical or computer engineering
