Job description

Responsibilities
Shape the Future of Aviation with Peraton
Join Peraton in advancing the safety, efficiency, and modernization of the National Airspace System (NAS) through the FAA's Brand New Air Traffic Control System (BNATCS) contract. As a trusted partner to the Federal Aviation Administration, Peraton delivers the mission-critical systems and services that keep millions of passengers and aircraft moving safely every day.
We're looking for forward-thinking professionals who thrive in complex, high-impact environments and want their work to matter. If you're passionate about innovation, collaboration, and shaping the future of air traffic management, this is your opportunity to make a real difference alongside leaders in aviation, engineering, data science, and systems integration.
Systems Integration Engineer - SME Telecommunications Team Central
Role Overview:
In this role, you will serve as a technical mentor who guides and supports the work of the West Service Area field team while still performing hands-on tasks yourself. You will support the physical and logical integration of fiber and IP-based circuits and direct the technical work needed to move legacy copper (TDM) systems to modern fiber and IP networks across the National Airspace System (NAS).
What You'll Do:
  • Manage Technical Integration: Lead the design, integration, and testing of systems that support the National Airspace System (NAS). Turn early architecture drawings into working IP network solutions. Provide clear technical directions and take ownership of technical tasks and related project activities.
  • Legacy-to-IP Migration: Lead the full life cycle of network infrastructure and software projects, from early planning through final deployment. Direct the hands-on migration of TDM circuits to IP based systems, ensuring smooth cutovers, circuit activation, and thorough performance testing.
  • System Validation: Assess requirement documents and identify necessary design changes; communicate these technical updates clearly to hardware and software engineering teams.
  • Hands-on Infrastructure Support: Work directly with network protocols and server-level hardware to solve complex technical bottlenecks during multi-state deployments.
  • Performance Monitoring: Use dashboards, key performance indicators (KPIs), and technical reports to verify that new fiber installations meet required reliability and resilience standards for mission critical aviation data. Analyze operational data to identify performance trends.
  • Communicate with impact: Provide clear, actionable status updates, dashboards, and briefings to stakeholders and senior leadership.

Travel and Work Location Requirements
This position requires 100% local travel to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) facilities within the assigned region. Candidates must reside in or near one of the locations listed below and be able to travel regularly to multiple FAA sites throughout their designated area as business needs require.
Eligible Regional Locations:
  • Dallas-Fort Worth, TX
  • Kansas City, MO

At Peraton, you won't just support the mission, you'll help define it. Your expertise will directly contribute to the reliability, resilience, and future evolution of one of the world's most critical transportation systems.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field (4 additional years of relevant experience can be accepted in lieu of degree)
  • 12+ years of hands-on experience in telecommunications network engineering, circuit integration, or infrastructure planning.
  • Deep technical command of BGP, TCP/IP, MPLS, and IPv6, specifically telecommunications infrastructure for TDM-to-IP conversion.
  • Hands-on experience with optical networking (fiber), telecom network infrastructure hardware, server-level deployments, testing, validation and acceptance.
  • Proven ability to model network growth and optimize capacity during large-scale system upgrades.
  • Telecommunications infrastructure experience with ground networks, air to ground systems and technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading the technical integration side of multi-million-dollar infrastructure initiatives; ability to apply project management methodologies to ensure delivery, compliance, and mission alignment.
  • Working knowledge of cloud networking across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to support hybrid NAS environments.
  • Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent
  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE).
  • AWS Solutions Architect - Associate
  • INCOSE Associate Systems Engineering Professional ASEP
