Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe DB2 System Programmer SME with deep expertise in IBM DB2 infrastructure, z/OS environments, Data Sharing, and SYSPLEX architecture.

In this role, you will provide technical analysis, troubleshooting, documentation, system configuration, performance optimization, and infrastructure support across mission-critical DB2 environments. You will work closely with application, infrastructure, operations, and engineering teams to identify issues, implement solutions, and ensure stable and high-performing DB2 systems.

The ideal candidate is highly analytical, customer-focused, comfortable working independently, and capable of handling complex infrastructure challenges from initial investigation through resolution and handoff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, customize, maintain, and support DB2 subsystems in standalone and Data Sharing environments.
  • Manage and support Monoplex, SYSPLEX, and DB2 Data Sharing architectures.
  • Perform DB2 subsystem setup, configuration, upgrades, migrations, maintenance, and backout activities.
  • Support DB2 backup and recovery strategies using image copies, FLASH technologies, mirroring, and related methodologies.
  • Configure and troubleshoot DB2 Data Sharing components, including DB2 structures, CFRM policies, coupling facilities, locking mechanisms, and CF recovery.
  • Perform DB2 health checks, security administration, patch management, and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Analyze DB2 traces and system data using SMF, RMF, and WLM.
  • Conduct DB2 and z/OS system performance analysis, tuning, and capacity optimization.
  • Develop and maintain automation using REXX, CLIST, and ISPF.
  • Support DB2 integrations with transactional platforms including CICS and IMS.
  • Perform software installation and maintenance using SMP/E.
  • Troubleshoot complex system issues and coordinate with software vendors through PMR or equivalent support processes.
  • Prepare technical documentation, diagrams, procedures, and operational handoff materials.

Required Qualifications

  • 14+ years of experience in Mainframe DB2 System Programming.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with IBM DB2 on z/OS.
  • Extensive experience with SYSPLEX, Monoplex, and DB2 Data Sharing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of DB2 subsystem installation, configuration, administration, maintenance, and recovery.
  • Experience with DB2 backup and recovery methodologies.
  • Strong programming and automation skills using REXX, CLIST, and ISPF.
  • Solid understanding of CICS and IMS architectures and their integration with DB2.
  • Experience with DB2 software migrations, maintenance, installation, backout, and re-migration procedures.
  • Strong working knowledge of SMP/E.
  • Experience with DB2 security, health checks, patch management, traces, SMF, RMF, and WLM.
  • Strong knowledge of z/OS and DB2 performance tuning.
  • Proven troubleshooting, debugging, and distributed problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with DB2 Connect and IBM Data Studio.
  • Experience with DB2 cloning using IBM DB2 Cloning Tool or comparable enterprise cloning solutions.
  • Previous experience supporting large, highly available enterprise mainframe environments.
