Job description

Leidos' Defense Systems, Threat Modeling & Simulation Portfolio, is seeking a talented Engineering Intern for modeling & simulation applications with the ability to potentially work multiple projects within the Threat Modeling & Simulation Portfolio. This internship has the flexibility to be part-time (12 hours minimum) or full-time, depending on school schedule.

You will join a diverse team of junior-to-senior software developers, engineers, and scientists to help create unique solutions for complex problems. Our team solves important problems that make a difference and support our customers in the current and future defense of our nation; primarily in the areas of modeling & simulation, data analysis, and algorithm development for electro-optical infrared (EO/IR) systems, radar systems, directed energy weapons, and command and control systems. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional academic performance and enthusiasm toward developing a broad technical capability to support overlapping engineering/scientific/developer disciplines with a particular focus on solving problems. Candidate will be expected to productively contribute to a team environment while communicating effectively to management, technical leads, and coworkers.

Primary Responsibilities.

  • Candidate can expect to work closely with a team of engineers and scientists to solve problems in a variety of disciplines to include EO/IR sensor systems, radar systems, directed energy weapons, and command and control systems, primarily for modeling & simulation purposes.
  • Candidate is expected to have a strong academic performance that lends itself towards a technical capability to support overlapping engineering/scientific/developer disciplines.
  • Candidate is also expected to have the ability to work and to communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Basic Qualifications.

  • Candidate must be actively enrolled and pursuing a Bachelor's degree program from an accredited university in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, engineering physics, physics, software engineering, computer science, or an equivalent engineering or scientific program.
  • Experience solving problems with MATLAB/Python/C++ or equivalent.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
  • Must be able to work between 12-40 hours a week.

Preferred Qualifications.

  • Highly organized, demonstrating the ability to work independently at times due to a fast-paced and highly productive work environment.
  • Interest in working multiple programs with proficiency in C++, MATLAB, Python, and/or C#.
  • Experience or interest in one or more of the following: EO/IR/RF phenomenology, image processing, signal processing, Kalman filtering, GPU programming with CUDA experience, developing AI/ML solutions.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following: recent stellar academic performance, a Secret clearance
