Job description

ASRC Federal supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in their mission of providing Second Level Engineering Support (SLES) to the major airports around the country. The Surface Surveillance support team provides engineering support for Airport Surface Detection Equipment (ASDE) and Runway Status Lights (RWSL). These systems are located at all major airports in the US and enable Air Traffic Control with tools to monitor and direct aircraft on the ground. Join our growing team by applying for this position today!

Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering support for National Airspace System (NAS) surface surveillance systems, ensuring reliable airport surface operations that enable Air Traffic Controllers to manage aircraft and vehicle movements safely and efficiently.
  • Travel to FAA airport sites nationwide to support software builds, system upgrades, system verification activities, ensuring surface surveillance systems operate smoothly and meet FAA operational and safety requirements.
  • Analyze system performance data, logs, and operational metrics to identify deficiencies in the system and recommend or implement corrective actions to enhance system performance.
  • Develop documents and implement system modifications through the FAA System Support Modification process, ensuring compliance with FAA engineering orders, technical standards, and operational policies.
  • Diagnose and resolve potential system, software, hardware, and network-related issues impacting surface surveillance systems, minimizing downtime, and reducing operational and safety risk.
  • Conduct risk and impact assessments to actions taken to improve system performance.
  • Coordinate with FAA engineers, technicians, and site stakeholders to support installation, integration, and deployment of major system upgrades at FAA facilities.

Requirements:

 

US Citizenship or Permanent Residency required. All applicants must have resided in the United States for the past 3 years.

On-site presence will be as required by the FAA.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to organize, present and explain information
  • Excited to participate in a team environment but able to work well individually
  • Self-motivated to deliver quality products with limited direction and guidance
  • Understands the importance of collaboration with other team members
  • Ability to pass an FAA background investigation
  • Ability to travel up to 25% if required

Education/Experience:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Computer Science is required. The degree must be from a school of engineering accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience using software version control software such as GIT and issue tracking software such as JIRA
  • Experience with Radio Frequencies (RF) or Radar is desirable
  • Experience using object-oriented languages such as JAVA, C++ or C# is a plus
  • Experience with Linux Operating Systems (e.g. Red Hat, Debian) is a plus
  • Experience with high-level scripting languages (e.g. BASH, Python) is a plus
