Job description

The VDI Consultant is a specialized technical expert embedded within the customerโ€™s IT environment . This role focuses on the design, deployment, optimization, and support of VDI solutions, primarily using VMware Horizon, Citrix, and Microsoft technologies. The consultant works under the direction of the onsite customer, ensuring virtual desktop environments are secure, scalable, and aligned with business needs.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and maintain VDI environments (e.g., VMware Horizon, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops)
  • Troubleshoot user access issues, performance bottlenecks, and application delivery problems
  • Perform health checks, patching, and capacity planning
  • Support endpoint devices including thin clients, zero clients, and mobile access
  • Document daily activities, incidents, and system changes
  • Design & Deployment
    • Assist in designing and implementing VDI architectures using Dell infrastructure (PowerEdge, VxRail, PowerStore)
    • Configure and deploy virtual desktops and application pools
    • Integrate App Volumes, User Environment Manager (UEM), and profile management tools
  • Optimization & Performance
    • Analyze performance metrics and recommend improvements
    • Implement automation scripts (e.g., PowerShell) for provisioning and monitoring
    • Support GPU-accelerated VDI for multimedia-rich applications
  • Security & Compliance
    • Ensure VDI environments meet security standards and compliance requirements.
    • Configure policies for access control, USB redirection, and endpoint security
  • Collaboration & Knowledge Transfer
    • Work closely with customer IT teams and Dell support
    • Provide training and documentation to customer staff
    • Participate in change management and project planning meetings

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in VDI design, deployment, and support
  • Expertise in VMware Horizon View, vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi), vCenter, Citrix, Microsoft AVD, and Dell infrastructure
  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Python) for automation and monitoring
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, SCCM/Intune, and M365 administration
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
