Job description

Description
The Nancy G. Zimmerman Center for Computational Brain Science at Brown University is seeking Postdoctoral Fellows to join the NIMH funded T32 Training Program. The program's goal is to train research fellows with expertise in computational, cognitive, and systems neuroscience, capable of collaborating with clinical researchers to advance knowledge of psychiatric disorders and treatments. Eligible research topics include brain and cognitive modeling over multiple scales and levels of analysis (ranging from biophysics to artificial intelligence), and the use of these models to understand mechanisms of psychiatric disorders with the ultimate goal of improving treatments. The program embraces an apprenticeship model in which fellows work with a primary research trainer in a computational field and, optionally, a secondary research mentor in clinical psychiatry. In this apprenticeship model, the trainer works closely with the fellow and a secondary clinical psychiatry mentor who conducts research in areas such as neuroimaging, neurostimulation, and digital phenotyping. These research areas are especially well-suited for addressing important issues in computational psychiatry, whether they are model- or theory-driven or data-driven. The proposed didactic program will include both core seminars and an individualized curriculum, including fellow-selected courses in neuroscience, computer science, engineering, applied mathematics, or psychiatric disorders. The long-term goal is to produce a new cohort of academics who can conduct research in computational psychiatry and train the next generation of graduate students in this emerging field of inquiry.
The Zimmerman Center for Computational Brain Science has a strong track record of excellence in computational neuroscience. The TPCP training program seeks to recruit recent PhDs with strong backgrounds in fields such as neuroscience, engineering, applied mathematics, and computer science, and provide them with the tools to make significant contributions to the emerging field of computational psychiatry.
Salary will be based on Brown's minimum pay scale and is commensurate with experience. This is a full-time in person position, based in Providence, RI. Selected applicants are eligible for a one-time onboarding supplement of $3,000, in compliance with Brown's policy.
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
  • PhD and/or MD degree (requirements for a doctoral degree must be completed before start of the
  • position.)
  • Research experience in a computational field such as neuroscience, cognitive science, computer science, engineering, applied mathematics, or a related discipline, applicable to computational psychiatry.
  • A published record of research accomplishment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Appicants must be a citizen or a noncitizen national of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence at the time of appointment, per the requirements of the NIH T32 funding mechanism.
