Specialist IS Engineer - Citrix Virtualization Engineer

What you will do

Amgen is seeking a Citrix Virtualization Engineer to manage, optimize, and support our Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops environments across global enterprise infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring deep hands-on expertise in Citrix virtualization technologies and advanced Citrix ADC (NetScaler) administration, including Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB), Web Application Firewall (WAF), Content Switching, MFA integration using nFactor authentication, and enterprise load balancing solutions.

This role is responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, scalability, and security of Citrix solutions that support Amgen's mission-critical applications and end-user platforms. It involves close collaboration with infrastructure, network, security, and global operations teams to deliver highly available and secure virtual desktop and application delivery solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own and manage Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops infrastructure, ensuring performance, availability, scalability, and compliance.
  • Administer and maintain Citrix ADC (NetScaler) environments, including:
    • Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB)
    • Load Balancing services
    • Content Switching policies
    • SSL offloading and certificate management
    • Web Application Firewall (WAF)
    • Multi-factor authentication (MFA) using nFactor authentication policies
  • Maintain the health and resiliency of Citrix environments, including Citrix Cloud and Citrix ADC platforms.
  • Design and implement secure remote access solutions leveraging Citrix Gateway and advanced authentication integrations.
  • Perform patching, firmware updates, and platform upgrades in line with enterprise change management policies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues involving Citrix infrastructure, user sessions, authentication flows, networking, and backend integrations.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for Citrix and NetScaler-related incidents within IT operations.
  • Collaborate with network and security teams to implement enterprise traffic management and application delivery strategies.
  • Document configurations, SOPs, architecture decisions, and operational runbooks to support audits and operational continuity.
  • Monitor system alerts, identify systemic issues, and implement long-term corrective and preventive actions.
  • Mentor support teams and transfer knowledge to ensure consistent operational support coverage.

Doctorate degree

High school diploma / GED and 10 years of Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field

Required Qualifications:

  • 3 to 6 years of experience managing and supporting Citrix environments.
  • Strong experience with:
    • Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops
    • Citrix ADC (NetScaler)
    • Citrix Cloud administration and architecture
  • Hands-on expertise with advanced Citrix ADC features including:
    • GSLB
    • WAF
    • Content Switching
    • Load Balancing
    • Citrix Gateway
    • MFA integration using nFactor authentication
  • Proficiency with Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, and enterprise authentication technologies.
  • Familiarity with virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including DNS, SSL/TLS, TCP/IP, and high-availability architectures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for complex virtualization, authentication, and application delivery issues.
  • Experience implementing secure remote access and zero-trust access concepts.
  • Familiarity with enterprise security best practices for Citrix and ADC environments.
  • Experience with monitoring, resiliency testing, disaster recovery, and performance optimization for Citrix ADC infrastructures.
  • Knowledge of scripting or automation tools such as PowerShell or Terraform is a plus.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills, especially in a global enterprise support model.
  • Experience collaborating in regulated or GxP-compliant environments (preferred).

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Citrix Certified Associate - Virtualization (CCA-V).
  • Citrix Certified Professional - Networking (CCP-N) or Citrix Certified Expert - Networking (CCE-N).
  • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server or Azure Administrator.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
