Open-Ranks Faculty Position in Computer ScienceJOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARYFlorida Polytechnic University invites applications for tenure-equivalent faculty positions in Computer Science at the rank of instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, or full professor to begin January 2025 or August 2025.
Position responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Computer Science, as well as conducting research. Collegiality, active service, and participation in governance in accordance with the vision and mission of the University are also expected. While candidates with all research areas are encouraged to apply, preference will be given to individuals with teaching strengths and interests in operating systems, computer architecture, databases, and computer science theory.
The Department of Computer Science (department) offers a BS in Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Game Development and Simulation, and Software Engineering as focus areas. The department also offers an MS in Computer Science with Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence as focus areas. The Department continues to grow its student body, research productivity, and successful partnerships with the Central Florida community. Florida Poly promotes the quality and effectiveness of education and strives to maintain the highest standards of academic excellence in all phases of instruction, research/scholarship/creative activity, and service. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Evidence of effective university-level teaching
  • For the rank of Instructor:
    • Master's degree from an accredited institution
    • 18 credit hours in the discipline
  • For the rank of Assistant Professor:
    • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field earned before the start date
  • For the rank of Associate Professor:
    • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field earned before the start date
    • Currently hold rank of Associate Professor or eligible to apply for Associate Professor at current institution.
  • For the rank of Full Professor:
    • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field earned before the start date
    • 6 years of experience at the rank of Associate Professor or equivalent

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates should possess:

  • A commitment to excellence in teaching
  • The ability to establish/conduct outstanding research with tangible outcomes

COMPENSATION:Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and rank.

TENURE-EQUIVALENT SYSTEM

Faculty at Florida Poly are employed via renewable, multi-year appointments codified in a collective bargaining agreement. This tenure-equivalent system substantially mirrors tenure systems at other schools, with reappointment and progression in rank based on a comprehensive review of accomplishments. Initial contract durations are as follows:

Assistant Professor: 3 years

Associate Professor: 3-5 years

Professor: 6 years

Applicants with post-PhD experience may be offered an accelerated timeline to apply for promotion to the next academic rank. Under this tenure-equivalent system, faculty are eligible to compete for NSF and NIH grants, including career grants.
