Summary: The Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) program in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is recruiting one Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) to teach two in-person sections of HDFS 380L in Fall 2026 and the same two laboratory sections again in Spring 2027, under faculty supervision. The course laboratory emphasizes test design, computer use, data analysis, and interpretation.
Duties and Responsibilities Teach both HDFS 380L sections in person and coordinate activities, assignments, deadlines, and grading procedures with the HDFS 380 faculty instructor. Prepare hands-on activities in research and test design, data management, statistical analysis, interpretation, and communication; demonstrate software procedures. Maintain the syllabus and Lamaku sites; communicate with students; evaluate work; provide timely feedback and student-support hours; and maintain accurate, confidential records.
Participate in required planning, coordination, training, and meetings and complete the full 0.50-FTE assignment across both semesters. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Classified degree-seeking graduate student in a Masters or Doctoral program (minimum 6 credits) in good academic standing (GPA of 3.0 or above)
Ability to explain research and statistical concepts clearly, evaluate student work, provide constructive feedback, and demonstrate English proficiency appropriate for teaching. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work as a team with faculty, staff, and students. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom or other similar software.
Strong organizational skills, including management of data. Ability to work independently or collaboratively. Demonstrated problem-solving, communication, and adaptability skills.
Familiarity with modern communication tools and technology and ability to assist others in using them. Desirable Qualifications Relevant graduate study. Prior TA, laboratory, tutoring, or college-teaching experience.
Familiarity with Lamaku. Coursework or demonstrated experience in behavioral or social science research methods, applied statistics, and statistical software such as SPSS or R.
