Position Summary

The Holton-Arms School seeks a collaborative, flexible, and enthusiastic Upper School Computer Science/Design Tech & Innovation Teacher to join our robust Pure and Applied Science/Computer Science Department for the 2026-27 school year. This is a full-time,10-month position.

Holton-Arms invites applications for a visionary and innovative Upper School Computer Science/Design Tech & Innovation Teacher. We believe that in a rapidly evolving digital landscape, our students must be more than just consumers or coders—they must be design-thinkers and innovators. Following our Lower School model, we seek an educator who uses the Design-Think process to help students build resilience, communication, and collaboration through iterative creation.

We are seeking candidates who can not only teach foundational computational and technical skills, but can also serve as a primary architect in dreaming and scaling the future of innovation at our school.

Responsibilities

Teaching & Mentorship (Grades 9-12)

  • Core Technical Instruction: Teach a robust curriculum including Introduction to CS, Python, and sequential programming levels.
  • Design & Fabrication: Lead courses in 2D and 3D CAD, 3D printing, web development, and robotics.

Strategic Innovation & Leadership

  • Program Scaling: Collaborate with the Design Tech department to build a meaningful, school-wide scope and sequence (Grades 3-12) that aligns with the Lower School "Maker" philosophy.
  • Curriculum Redesign: Lead the evolution of "Computer Science" toward "Design Tech," prioritizing project-based learning and human-centered design.
  • AI & Future Tech: Integrate AI literacy and emerging technologies across the curriculum to ensure students understand the ethical and functional implications of modern tools.
  • Advisory: Serve as a mentor and role model, fostering a positive learning environment and supporting student well-being.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A passion for the Design-Think process and experience working in maker spaces (robotics, CAD, physical computing).
  • Significant experience in programming languages (specifically Python, JavaScript, and Java) and their applications in solving real-world problems.
  • The ability to dream big about the future of technology in education while remaining grounded in pedagogical best practices.
  • A commitment to fostering an equitable and just community where every student’s unique identity is valued.
  • A Bachelor’s degree and significant experience teaching school-age children, particularly at the Upper School level.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive, equitable, and supportive environment for student-athletes and staff.
  • Proficiency in scheduling software, website management tools, and social media platforms.
  • Alignment with the mission, vision, and values of Holton-Arms, including its focus on intellectual curiosity, leadership, and service.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Desire and ability to coach athletics and/or participate in the co-curricular life of the student experience is a plus.

Salary & Benefits

The average salary range for this position is $70,000 - $100,000, the exact salary to be determined based on education and experience. We use a step scale to determine teacher salary. Additional stipends are available for coaching, certain club sponsorship and significant commitments outside of the classroom. Benefits include health insurance with a generous employer contribution to medical, dental and vision; life and disability insurance; 403b retirement savings with an employer match and non-elective contribution; employee assistance program, tuition remission for eligible children; professional development opportunities; paid parental leave after one year of employment; paid sick and personal days; and lunch is provided on school days.
