Job description

Job DescriptionPosition Summary:

The Department of Clinical Sciences at Colorado State University invites applications for a 12month, tenuretrack Assistant, or Associate Professor in Veterinary Ophthalmology. This position will be based in the Department of Clinical Sciences on the Veterinary Health Campus at Colorado State University. The Ophthalmology Service at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of ocular and visionthreatening conditions across species. The service is supported by modern clinical facilities, a strong and diverse referral caseload, and an experienced multidisciplinary support team, offering an excellent environment for clinical service, teaching, and professional collaboration.

Essential Job Duties:

Teaching

  • Teach and mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including course and curriculum development.

  • The faculty member will provide handson clinical instruction to third and fourthyear DVM students, supervise ophthalmology residents and smallanimal interns, and deliver didactic and laboratory instruction in the DVM curriculum. This level of effort is essential to maintaining required instructional hours, ensuring competencybased training, and meeting accreditation expectations.

Research

  • Conduct and publish research, pursue external funding, and contribute to scholarly advancement in the field.

  • Tenure Track, Assistant Professor - expected to create and implement an impactful, independent research program Tenure Track, Associate Professor - expected to either bring and continue or create an impactful, sustainable independent research program.

Clinical Service & Outreach

  • Provide service to the department, university, profession, and community in support of CSU's mission.

  • The position includes 18-24 weeks of clinical service annually within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, supporting direct patient care, specialty consultations, emergency coverage, and professional outreach to referring veterinarians statewide and beyond. Clinical effort directly supports hospital caseload capacity, appointment availability, and revenue generation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Assistant Professor:

  • The approximate commitment to clinical responsibilities will range from 18 - 24 weeks.

  • DVM or equivalent veterinary professional degree.

  • Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology or European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ECVO).

Associate Professor:

  • The approximate commitment to clinical responsibilities will range from 18 - 24 weeks.

  • DVM or equivalent veterinary professional degree.

  • Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology or European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ECVO).

  • Evidence of maintaining research efforts with a track record of productivity.

  • 5 years of experience at the Assistant Professor rank or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in instruction of DVM students.

  • Experience with mentorship of clinical residents, graduate students, and other specialists in training.

  • Evidence of dedication to the advancement of the field of veterinary ophthalmology.

  • MS or PhD and/or evidence of success in developing and or maintaining an independent research program including acquisition of funding and publications.
