Job description

DISHER is currently seeking a Hardware Engineer to play a central role on our cross-functional product development team. In this role, you will bring your deep experience in electronic hardware design and early-stage product development, rapidly building functional prototypes, shaping technical direction, and influencing product strategy from concept through launch. We are looking for someone that is comfortable rolling up their sleeves and engaging directly on customer projects. You will also have software and/or systems engineering fluency and will play an important role helping define and evolve DISHER's electronics strategy to best serve client needs. We are looking for a confident communicator and strategic thinker with an entrepreneurial mindset, energized by innovation, new product development, and the opportunity to help build and grow high-performing teams.

What you will get to do:
  • Collaborate across electrical, mechanical, and software teams to support full product development.
  • Lead the design, development and validation of electronic hardware systems, including circuit design, schematic capture, PCB layout, and component selection. 
  • Build, prototype, debug, and document hardware designs for new product development.
  • Apply electrical engineering principles such as circuit analysis, modeling, thermal management, and EMC considerations.
  • Engage with customers on-site, providing technical leadership and building strong relationships.
  • Lead hardware design reviews and guide technical decision-making across projects.
  • Develop and execute test strategies, including pre-compliance and validation testing at certified labs. 
  • Estimate technical tasks, timelines, and project scope for customer engagements.
  • Contribute to and improve internal engineering tools, processes, and best practices.
  • Support business development through technical input on proposals and customer discussions.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to developing team capabilities and consulting excellence.
What will make you successful:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electronics/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field required.
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical hardware design or product development.
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial, adaptable mindset.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and comfortable operating in ambiguity and shaped undefined requirements.
  • Proven experience with schematic design, PCB layout, and hardware bring-up.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems and ability to collaborate effectively with software teams.
  • Experience with lab validation, testing, and regulatory/pre-compliance processes.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites is essential (mostly local in West Michigan but sometimes domestic).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work directly with customers.
  • Must have the current and continuing right to work in the United States of America without restrictions or expirations.
