The Basics:
Location: Safford, AZ
Days/Hours: Full-time; Schedule may vary based on operational needs
Travel Expectations: Less than 20%
The Safety Supervisor is responsible for implementing and executing the safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) plan, providing SH&E support for FMI Safford Mine, Morenci Mine, Sulphur Transportation Operation, and meeting site-specific SH&E strategy requirements.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Work closely with the Operation Manager and Supervisors to implement all safety-related portions of Savage's S7 System.
  • Development and delivery of procedural and regulatory training. Regularly track and report training completion in addition to scheduling as needed.
  • Support execution of customer's operating requirements, specifically MSHA requirements.
  • Establish a proactive SH&E process toward incident prevention.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure Team Members follow proper safety rules, procedures, and processes.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with applicable regulatory bodies, including OSHA, MSHA, FRA, DOT, and EPA.
  • Interface with key customer SH&E and operations contacts and assist operations in implementing and executing customer-driven programs or emphasis areas (including regular involvement with the Mine's Contractor Safety Team).
  • Steward the Lead Safety Specialist and Safety Specialist program for Safford Transportation and Transloading Operations.
  • Ensure incidents are properly reported to internal and external parties.
  • Lead Savage team on internal and customer safety audits.
  • Lead the root cause investigation process to completion while ensuring sustainable corrective actions are implemented to avoid repeat events.
  • Routinely spend time in the field with front-line Team Members and observe field activities.
  • Track leading indicators to address trends at the Safford Maintenance Office, Morenci Mine, and Safford Mine.
  • Support Operations Leaders during incidents by responding as needed and completing Hazard Assessments before Non-Routine tasks involving Savage Team Members.

What You Need to Be Successful:
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of safety, including OSHA, MSHA, DOT
  • Experience in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to analyze situations and data to make sound decisions
  • Training experience preferred
  • Computer skills (MS Office Suite)
  • Excellent communication skills, written and spoken; excellent organizational skills and multi-tasking
  • Impeccable character
  • Detail-oriented and self-starter, with the ability to prioritize tasks

Preferred Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety or a related field is preferred.
  • 3+ years' experience working in the Transportation or Mine Operations.
  • 3+ years' experience working in an industrial setting with Transportation Equipment or Mines.
  • Hold a safety certification recognized by an accredited organization or be able to obtain certification within the first 12 months. Examples include ASP, SMS, OHST, or CET.

Physical Requirements:
  • 10% travel required
  • Ability to walk on uneven surfaces
  • Ability to climb ladders or stairs
  • Ability to work at waist level or below
  • Ability to work indoors in an office environment, as well as outdoors in changing weather conditions
  • Willing to always wear appropriate PPE when needed and set an example
