Description

Position Summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Med - Cardiovascular Disease, is in search of an experienced Research Scientist to join their team. The laboratory is focused on understanding how factors such as time of day, diet, and exercise impact cardiovascular health. Using a series of basic science and bench side strategies in pre-clinical models, the laboratory investigates cardiovascular parameters at molecular, histological, metabolic, and functional levels. A knowledgeable and skilled Research Scientist with experience in this field will help advance these studies.

General Responsibilities

A Research Scientist conducts advanced studies in a specific field, applying specialized knowledge to drive research projects. This role involves data analysis, interpretation of results, and contribution to scientific literature. The position requires collaboration with peers and adherence to established protocols, with moderate autonomy and responsibility for project deliverables. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Working at the bench, using techniques such as Western Blotting, immunoprecipitation, PCR, RT-PCR, and cell culture.

Recordkeeping and data analysis.

Animal work, such as weaning mice, ear tagging, tail clipping, feeding special diets, and helping with metabolic cages.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range : $ 70,425- $ 114,440

Qualifications

Doctorate degree in a related field and one (1) year of related experience OR Master’s degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

Lab-based skills, including Western Blotting, immunoprecipitation, PCR, RT-PCR, animal handling, cell culture.

A degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Physiology, Biomedical Sciences, or a closely related field.
