Job Summary:

Barnard College, Office of Lifelong Learning Programs is seeking part time instructors for our non-degree programs, BarnardNext. A program specifically designed for lifelong learners looking for an opportunity to expand their horizons, learn in an engaging environment, and meet new friends, BarnardNext provides a unique learning community within the Division of Community Engagement and Lifelong Success.

Job Description:

The instructor course materials range from academic subjects to skills and activities. We encourage a variety of teaching formats, including facilitated discussions of books, films or ideas; informational lectures, hands-on instruction; and field trips. Instructors may teach in one or more of the following areas (but not limited to):

  • Art
  • Art History
  • Computer Science
  • Contemporary Issues
  • Crafts
  • Environmental Science
  • Film Studies
  • History
  • Music
  • Music History
  • Philosophy
  • Photography
  • Poetry
  • Political Science
  • Psychology
  • Science- Biology, Physiology, Astronomy etc.

The position will be responsible for course creation and content delivery during any of the pre-scheduled programs that run throughout the year. Courses typically meet in person or on Zoom for an allotted time (typically no more than 2.5 hours) once a week. Programming ranges from one-day to 5 weeks.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Masters Degree required, Doctorate Preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of or experience with course subject matter.

  • Undergraduate teaching required/ Graduate/Adult/Non-Degree teaching experience preferred.

Compensation range: $1,300- $3,000 depending on the length of of the course

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
