This position is limited to a maximum of 35 hours per week, not to exceed 944 hours in a fiscal year. Interns generally are required to work a minimum of 10 hours per week. The Judiciary offers a strong opportunity for growth.
The Atlantic/Cape May Vicinage is accepting resumes for paid internship opportunities for Spring 2027. The interns will perform a variety of clerical, administrative, supportive tasks, and customer service duties in connection with proceedings instituted before the Court. Interns may also assist with tasks such as, but not limited to, data entry and information retrieval, filing, and making photocopies.
Interns will gain broad insight into the court system. The selected candidates will treat all personnel, clients, and members of the public with dignity, courtesy, and respect. Hours and days worked are flexible but must be between 8:30AM and 4:30PM Monday through Friday excluding State holidays.

Internships may be available in the following divisions: Civil, Criminal, Criminal Pre-Trial Services, Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action (EEO/AA), Family, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology (IT), Municipal, Operations/Jury, Court User Resource Center (CURC)/Ombudsman's Office, Probation (Child Support, Adult Supervision, Recovery Court), Trial Court Administration. Internships may be available in the following locations: Atlantic City, Mays Landing, and/or Cape May Court House.
If another position becomes available within five months of this recruitment's closing date, the applicant pool from this posting may be used to fill additional vacancies. Example of Duties Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position. Assist with answering phones, returning phone calls, and receiving and distributing voicemails.
Contact and follow-up with applicants, defendants, court users, and/or members of the public. Organize and scan paper files/filings by parties and upload scans into an electronic filing system. Perform special projects.
Conduct research and analysis. Perform computer related work. Collect and enter data.
Provide customer service. Draft correspondences and memos. Observe client interviews and court proceedings.
Attend community planning meetings. Assist staff and perform other duties as directed. Qualifications Unofficial College or University transcript must be included in your application in order to be considered.
Criminal-Pretrial Services and/or Probation Divisions: Thirty (30) credit hours from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree or certificate in the Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a related field. All Other Divisions: Thirty (30) credit hours from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree. Supplemental Information Physical Ability: For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching.
The selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds. Driver's License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position. Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required.
Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. Special Note: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information.
Residency Law: In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey
Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.
