Description
The Library Teen Intern provides essential support to daily library operations, with a focus on delivering excellent customer service and promoting reading, nutrition, and fitness during the busy summer months. This internship offers hands-on experience in a public library environment-ideal for individuals interested in exploring careers in libraries, education, or related fields.
Duration of Internship: 4 weeks
Location: Redding Library (onsite)
Employment Type: Temporary Part-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Hours Per Week: 6.5
Hourly Rate: $16.90
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES
  • Answer basic patron questions and help maintain a welcoming environment.
  • Support library programs and events by supporting library programs and events by setting up and cleaning up program areas, preparing crafts and activity materials, greeting participants, and assisting with attendance tracking using a people counter.

Requirements
  • Friendly and approachable demeanor with strong customer service skills.
  • Interest in working with the public, especially families and children.
  • Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with staff.
  • Previous experience in libraries or public service settings is a plus but not required.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain regular and reliable attendance throughout the internship schedule.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to move throughout the library and program spaces during the shift.
  • Ability to set up and clean-up program materials, including lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and stand for extended periods of time as needed.
  • Ability to use a computer, tablet, phone, and other standard office or library equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patrons, staff, and program participants in person and over the phone.

Salary Description
