POSITION OVERVIEW

The School Bus Driver position performs driving duties for the school in accordance with the laws and regulations of the state policies, and procedures of the school.


PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate a school bus over designated routes in accordance with specified time schedules and in accordance with the regulations and laws related to pupil transportation

    • Transport students to and from school for curricular and extracurricular activities

  • Pick up and discharge students at established school bus stops

  • Report incidents which affect the safety of students and the operation of the school bus.

  • Maintain the school bus in a safe operating condition through prescribed daily vehicle inspections

    • Report mechanical defects and malfunctions to the appropriate personnel

  • Maintain the school bus in clean condition, including interior windows, seats, dash area, and floors.

  • Ensure and maintain student order and discipline on school buses

    • Maintain control and orderly behavior

      • Report disruptive children according to established procedures and guidelines to the appropriate school personnel

    • Communicate behavior issues as required by school policy

  • Maintain current knowledge of emergency evacuation procedures and techniques.

  • Communicates with the dispatcher via two-way radio during the route

    • Provides updates to the dispatcher and reports emergencies, traffic patterns, or accidents.

  • Accurately complete daily paperwork

    • Attendance

    • Pre/post-trip inspections

  • Attend training and development sessions, as required.

SECONDARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

    • Minimum of six months previous school bus driving experience or vocational training preferred

  • Valid CDL Class A or B with passenger and school bus endorsements

  • Must pass the following

    • DOT drug screening

    • Clean driving record

    • Physical exam

    • Background check

    • All other company requirements

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to operate a school bus safely

  • Extensive knowledge of motor vehicle laws

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Excellent time management skills
