SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The science tutor is responsible for providing academic support to students in science, with a focus on inquiry-based learning and alignment with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) through engagement in hands-on learning, investigations, and discussions that enhance student comprehension and application of scientific principles.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Tutor students individually or in a scheduled group reading time using evidence-based science strategies ensuring alignment with NGSS.
  • Utilize inquiry-based learning strategies to promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific exploration.
  • Guide students through hands-on investigations, experiments, and data analysis to support learning.
  • Assist students in developing scientific literacy, including reading, interpreting, and evaluating scientific texts and data.
  • Support students in constructing explanations, engaging in argumentation, and applying scientific practices.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure all student tutoring needs are met.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience tutoring or teaching science in an educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and inquiry-based learning approaches.
  • Ability to explain scientific concepts clearly and engage students in hands-on learning activities.
