Job Summary
As a Data Scientist at BPMI, you will work under normal supervision and perform semi-complex critical technical functions to execute the BPMI mission in areas including, but not limited to applying data analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning techniques to generate actionable insights that drive business decisions. This role involves collecting, analyzing, and interpreting both structured and unstructured data to support business solutions and operational improvements. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is key to identifying business challenges, developing predictive models, and communicating findings through reports, dashboards, and presentations. Continuous learning and adapting to emerging trends and technologies in data science are essential to fostering a data-driven culture within BPMI. The role ensures data accuracy, optimizes processes for efficiency, and works with stakeholders to enhance decision-making and business performance.
Essential Duties:
  • Prepare, analyze, and interpret data from various sources using statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and computational techniques.
  • Develop and maintain predictive models, analytical applications, and data pipelines to support business and engineering solutions.
  • Collaborate with data owners to scope problems and implement data-driven solutions.
  • Analyze both structured and unstructured data sets, ensuring statistical significance and accuracy in results.
  • Present findings and insights in clear, accessible visuals such as reports, dashboards, and presentations.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing and documentation to promote learning within teams.
  • Stay informed on emerging data science trends and technologies to improve methods and techniques.
  • Apply data science methods to improve decision-making and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in software development projects, including writing and testing code.
  • Implement basic configuration management practices to track changes in code and data.

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related technical degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • Ten (10) or more years of completed education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years of experience requirements.
  • Requires a security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.

Preferred Job Requirements:
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred for recent college graduates.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Outlook, etc.) and other commonly used business applications or role specific applications.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills - including effective technical writing skills.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, with strong attention to detail and deadlines. Committed to maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive working relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving project requirements while maintaining compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and applicable regulations. Strong desire to learn and adapt to new challenges.
