Our client, Gilead Sciences, a world leader in Bio-pharmaceuticals is seeking a "Benchling ELN Engineer" in Santa Monica,CA.

Job Location:Santa Monica, CA

We are seeking a Benchling ELN Engineer to support Process Development and Analytical Testing teams within a leading biotechnology organization. This role will be responsible for implementing, configuring, and enhancing the Benchling Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) platform to streamline scientific workflows, improve laboratory efficiency, and support digital transformation initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have experience with Benchling administration and configuration, software development, laboratory informatics, and scientific research environments. This position requires close collaboration with scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders to develop scalable solutions that support research and development activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into Benchling ELN solutions.
  • Configure, customize, and maintain the Benchling ELN platform to support laboratory operations and scientific workflows.
  • Design and develop custom workflows, integrations, and automation solutions using Benchling APIs and related technologies.
  • Create dashboards, reports, and custom label templates utilizing Bartender software.
  • Support Zebra printer integrations and barcode generation processes.
  • Develop, test, troubleshoot, and deploy system enhancements following SDLC best practices.
  • Monitor system performance, investigate issues, and implement corrective actions to ensure platform stability.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, configuration specifications, and user guides.
  • Participate in Agile development activities, including sprint planning, effort estimation, and status reporting.
  • Support computer system validation (CSV) activities, including documentation and compliance requirements.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvements and optimize laboratory informatics processes.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Bioinformatics, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience implementing, configuring, or supporting Benchling ELN.
  • Experience with REST APIs, system integrations, and workflow automation.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory operations, scientific workflows, and R&D environments.
  • Experience creating dashboards, reports, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Benchling Registry, Inventory, and ELN modules.
  • Experience with Bartender label software and Zebra printer technologies.
  • Experience with laboratory informatics systems such as ELN, LIMS, LES, or scientific data platforms.
  • Experience working in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, cell therapy, gene therapy, or life sciences organizations.
  • Knowledge of GxP, cGMP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, and data integrity requirements.
  • Experience with Computer System Validation (CSV), IQ/OQ/PQ documentation, and regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, database technologies, and scientific software applications.
