What you'll do

Viasat is looking for a Cloud Security Engineer for our Security Engineering team to help drive our security cloud engineering-focused, cross technical domain vision in our Global Infrastructure & Security organization.  The team’s mission is to enable secure innovative, cloud-focused solutions to Viasat customers, partners, engineers, and employees.


The day-to-day
  • Design and maintain reusable security templates and reference architectures for teams building in the cloud across

    Azure, AWS, and GCP

  • Provide architecture guidance and security reviews to ensure solutions meet industry best practices and

    organizational standards

  • Drive compliance to security frameworks, including CMMC Level 2 requirements within applicable cloud organizations

  • Partner with engineering teams to embed security controls early in the development lifecycle

  • Work alongside an innovative, cross-functional team to develop cloud security solutions, reusable templates,

    and standardized best practices


What you'll need
  • US Citizenship required

  • 5+ years of practical security experience

  • 5+ years of engineering or software development experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent experience

  • Strong AWS and GCP architecting and development knowledge including hands-on experience designing secure cloud environments

  • Solid understanding of security fundamentals: encryption, identity and access management, network segmentation, and threat modeling

  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and comfortable with technical details

  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform


What will help you on the job
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking fundamentals and cloud networking concepts (VPCs, subnets, routing, firewalls)
  • Experience programming in Python, Java, or another object-oriented language
  • Experience testing software and integrating security into automated pipelines
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and knowledge of GitHub coding best- practices
  • Mid- to senior-level development experience
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly convey security risks and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Candidate should have an interest in researching cutting edge technology and security research
  • Experience with Google Security Command Center Enterprise or Google SecOps
  • Experience with AWS security tooling: Security Hub, GuardDuty, Inspector
  • Familiarity with Responsible AI usage concepts and secure AI/ML deployment

Salary range
$140,500.00 - $221,500.00 / annually.For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $174,000.00- $261,000.00/ annually
