They may work with desktops, laptops, and sometimes mobile devices, addressing problems such as malfunctioning components, viruses, and software errors. Technicians may also perform routine maintenance, install new hardware or software, and provide technical support to users. Their work is essential for ensuring that computers run efficiently and securely.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a computer repair technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Computer Repair Technician, you need a solid understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, troubleshooting, and often a relevant certification like CompTIA A+ or similar. Computer repair technicians often encounter challenges such as distinguishing between hardware and software problems, especially when symptoms overlap. Diagnosing intermittent hardware failures, like faulty RAM or failing hard drives, can also be tricky as these issues may not appear consistently. We welcome applicants at all experience levels, but prior experience working in a computer repair shop, computer store, helpdesk or similar hands-on technical environment is expected.

What You'll Do

As an IT Support Technician, your responsibilities will include:

Applicants must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Experience

We are open to candidates with different levels of technical experience.

You do not need to know everything. We're interested in people who already have a solid hands-on foundation and are curious, motivated, technically inclined, and eager to learn.

Experience with some or all of the following is expected:

  • Windows 10/11
  • Desktop and laptop hardware repair

Opportunity for Growth

This position can be much more than a bench technician role.

For the right person, there is significant opportunity to grow into additional IT support and networking responsibilities, including:

  • On-site customer support
  • Field service calls
  • Network troubleshooting
  • Server and infrastructure support
  • Microsoft 365 and cloud administration
