Job description

Job Overview:
APTIM is currently seeking an energetic and motivated Civil Engineering intern to join our team of engineers and scientists in support various project activities. The Civil Engineer Intern will support civil engineering teams in the planning, design, analysis, and construction support of infrastructure and site development projects. This internship provides hands-on experience working alongside licensed engineers and project teams on real-world projects while developing technical, analytical, and professional skills. APTIM's internship program provides students with the opportunity to acquire real-world knowledge and skills that will help focus efforts on the most appropriate field of study. Interns will be paired with experienced engineering and science staff who will provide training on specific tasks, and also mentorship on the environmental assessment, remediation, and infrastructure business. This is a Temporary position.
The Internship Program is a 12-week experience running from May 18, 2026 through August 7, 2026. Interns are required to be fully available during Week 1 (May 18--22) and Week 12 (August 3--7) of the program.
Interns are expected to minimize absences to ensure a meaningful program experience. The program observes Memorial Day (May 25, 2026) and Independence Day (July 3, 2026, observed).
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
  • Dedication to learning applicable regulatory rules and guidance as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Works on straightforward tasks using established procedures. All work will be subject to review by experienced engineering and science staff.
  • Collaborate with current engineering staff in the interpretation of engineering data, conduct engineering analyses, and perform calculations and modeling utilizing appropriate software packages.
  • Assistance in implementing remedial actions designed by professional engineering staff.
  • Assist with the preparation of civil engineering designs, calculations, and technical documents
  • Support site development, grading, drainage, utilities, and roadway design tasks
  • Assist with data collection, field observations, and site inspections as needed
  • Prepare and revise drawings using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D)
  • Perform basic engineering calculations and quantity take-offs
  • Assist with reports, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Coordinate with project team members to support project schedules and deliverables
  • Review plans and documents for accuracy and compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation
  • Follow company safety policies and procedures

Basic Qualifications:
  • Attending an accredited educational institution pursuing a degree in Civil or Engineering or closely related field.
  • Preference is for candidate to have completed their Junior year in college with expected graduation in 2026.
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills
  • Must be a self-starter, excel in time management, and work well under pressure.
  • Must be available to work in various settings such as in an office or remotely in the field, depending on project needs.
  • Ability to complete 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and wear proper personal protective equipment for work on hazardous waste sites.
  • Lifting and physical work will be required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a clean driving record.
  • Must be US Citizen to get on base at Federal Government site
  • Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA with at least 60 hours of coursework completed

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $25-$29 per hour. Compensation depends on several factors including: experience, education, key skills, geographic location of the position, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among other employees within APTIM.
