As a computer programmer, part-time work is widely available, both in corporate offices and over the internet. In this role, you may help code software, determine the programming steps needed to meet design goals, use your computer to test the existing software, and otherwise help develop and improve software. Part-time computer programmers often work on a corporate network and help engineer solutions to technical problems. In this context, part-time means fewer than 40 hours per week. You may still work 8-hour shifts—or longer if needed—but you won't have a full work week as long as the job remains part-time.
| Aspect | Computer Programmer Part Time | Software Developer Part Time |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Typically an associate degree or coding bootcamp certification | Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field often preferred |
| Work Environment | Freelance, remote, or part-time roles in various industries | Similar environments, often in tech companies or startups |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Used across industries for coding and debugging tasks | Used in software development projects, app creation, and system design |
| Common Search & Comparison | Often compared based on coding tasks and flexibility | Compared for project scope and development responsibilities |
Both roles involve coding and software tasks but differ mainly in scope and typical qualifications. Computer Programmers Part Time focus on coding and debugging, often with less formal education, while Software Developers Part Time usually handle broader development responsibilities with more advanced credentials. Understanding these differences helps job seekers find roles aligned with their skills and career goals.

We are a certified channel partner for Infinite Campus, the K-12 student information system used by school districts across the country. Our team builds add-on products, custom integrations, and tailored reporting solutions that extend Infinite Campus for the districts we serve. We are hiring two Software Developer Interns to join our team for a 10-12 week summer program. Interns will work alongside our developers on real client-facing projects - supporting Java-based add-ons, writing custom SSRS reports, and manipulating data out of MS SQL Server. What they work on over the summer directly impacts school districts and gets used by the educators and administrators there.
