The Principal Controls Engineer (Field Service Engineering) leads the Active Protection (APS) initiative including installation, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and customer support at various domestic and international locations. Assists in developing and provides feedback on system installation drawings, documents, and procedures. Leads and performs APS kit installations, and develops familiarity with customer equipment, sites, and teams. Solves complex problems as they develop; ensures safety, quality, and schedule relative to the assigned contractual tasks. Will be the expert in APS field system installations. Travel may include OCONUS trips.
Ability to obtain a Security Clearance is required.

  • Designs, installs, optimizes, and adapts electronic control systems and instruments to automate and monitor industrial processes.
  • Develops technical designs, process diagrams, SCADA block diagrams, and control schematics to implement automation controls.
  • Configures systems using PLC and HMI techniques.
  • Models, tests, and measures output and data to analyze performance or quality issues and develop solutions.

Oversee installations and ensure compliance with all technical and program requirements. Perform root-cause analysis, advanced troubleshooting, and resolve system issues across hardware, software, radar, optics, wiring, and real-time controls. Document installations, issues, and resolutions to meet reporting requirements.

  • Required education and experience: Associate's Degree and 8-10 years' experience Associate's Degree
  • Discipline/Major: Engineering degree required
  • Critical professional related technical skills; computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Preferred education and experience: Bachelor's Degree is highly preferred.
  • Discipline / Major:  Electrical, or Electromechanical Engineering.
  • Knowledge, skills & abilities: Electromechanical Systems. Radar Technology. Vehicle Integration. Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) Software. Control Systems. Device Integration. Human Machine Interface (HMI).  Instrument Control. Performance Analysis. Power Management. Process Optimization. Programmable Logic Control (PLC).  Reliability Analysis. SCADA Architecture. Schematic Capture. Statistical Process Control. Technical Troubleshooting.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
  • This position is Safety-Sensitive.
