Do you enjoy fixing things, solving problems, and making sure things run smoothly? If so, you may be a great fit for the Port Engineer role at Ingram Marine Group in our Reserve, LA location. We're looking for a technically minded individual to help maintain our vessels and keep them operating safely and efficiently. As a Port Engineer, you'll play a key role in ensuring our boats meet United States Coast Guard regulations as well as Ingram's own high standards. This role involves managing multiple projects, providing excellent customer support, solving complex engineering issues, supporting vessel crews, and working in a variety of outdoor environments. Safety is our top priority. At Ingram, we're committed to protecting our people, our equipment, and the environment with a goal of zero harm.
What you will be doing:
  • Ensuring equipment is maintained to the standards Ingram has set
  • Coordinating vessel maintenance, repairs, and down time to engineering managers
  • Working with vendors to schedule and coordinate maintenance and repairs within required or requested timeline
  • Assisting the Chief Engineer with repairs and maintenance underway and/or dock side
  • Attending routine staff and overhaul meetings
  • Working with vendors to accomplish repairs when needed
  • Conducting annual performance evaluations with vessel engineers
  • Managing vessel maintenance records in the vessel maintenance repair program (HELM)
  • Assisting with communications to vessel engineers, troubleshooting problems, training of junior engineers, gathering new ideas for all job task improvements
  • Managing costs for all repairs and purchasing to control maintenance cost
  • Communicate IBCO standards and policies to all vendors
  • Collaborating with operations when scheduling vessel maintenance and repairs
  • Supporting department activities with regular and prompt attendance
  • Performing special technical assignments as directed by the Manager of Engineering
  • Attending three vessel visits yearly on assigned vessels

Qualifications
What we're looking for:
  • Associate's degree, technical school, or diesel college education preferred
  • 2-3 years of related experience
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Working knowledge of engines, gears, generators, hydraulics, basic electrical
  • Intermediate computer skills and experience, Microsoft Office programs
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must have knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Must have the ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Must have creative problem-solving skills
  • Must have the ability to trouble shoot and resolve problems remotely
  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with vessel crew, operations, safety, vendors, and USCG

Additional Information
What will make you successful:
  • Must have the physical ability to transit all work environments for vessel and facility docks (i.e. lifting, climbing, confined spaces, maneuver hazardous areas)
  • Able to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Walking on uneven surfaces
  • Traveling to other facilities
  • On-call 24 hours/day and weekend in a rotating schedule, including holidays
