As a BOSS Computer Science Instructor, you will design and deliver instruction aligned with the Louisiana K-12 Student Standards for Computer Science, preparing students with essential computing, problem-solving, and digital literacy skills.

Knowledge of computing systems, networks, algorithms, programming, and cybersecurity; ability to design standards-aligned instruction; strong communication and classroom management; proficiency with educational technology.

To support highquality CS instruction, candidates may also hold or be willing to obtain recognized technology and computer science certifications, such as:

  • CompTIA ITF+, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, or CompTIA Security+ (validates foundational computing, networking, and cybersecurity knowledge).
  • Microsoft Certified Educator (MCE) or Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) (where applicable).
  • Google Educator Level 1 or 2 (for effective instructional technology integration).
  • Apple Teacher Certification.
  • STE Certified Educator (aligned to ISTE's professional standards).
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner or Google Cloud Digital Leader (for cloud computing fundamentals).
  • AIrelated microcredentials, such as AI literacy badges, ethical AI certifications, or educational AI integration programs from recognized technologyeducation providers.

Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional learning aligned with current CS and AI instructional practices, emerging technologies, and the evolving national K--12 CS landscape.

Responsibilities

  • You will develop and implement instructional plans aligned to Louisiana CS standards, delivering engaging curriculum that supports graduation requirements while assessing student progress and fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Your instruction will incorporate cybersecurity, digital citizenship, and AI literacy--helping students understand emerging concepts such as machine learning, datadriven technologies, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence.
  • You will integrate nationally recognized Computer Science standards, including the CSTA K--12 Computer Science Standards, which outline core learning objectives introducing fundamental computing principles, presenting rigorous secondarylevel CS content, and expanding access to highquality computer science education for all students.
  • These standards emphasize computing systems, networks and the internet, data and analysis, algorithms and programming, and the impacts of computing.
  • Instruction will also reflect ISTEaligned practices that promote digital citizenship, computational thinking, empowered technology use, and responsible engagement with intelligent digital tools, ensuring students develop the skills, habits, and critical thinking necessary to thrive as creative problemsolvers in a technologically advanced world.

Requirements

  • The candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or possess an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid teaching certification is required, along with a demonstrated commitment to the values of the organization.
  • The candidate must also meet Louisiana state requirements, including holding a Louisiana teaching certification and, when applicable, a computer science certification for teaching Computer Science I and II, while demonstrating strong technology proficiency and a commitment to ongoing professional learning.
  • CSUSA may consider alternatives to these qualifications when appropriate and acceptable.
  • The individual must also be prepared to perform other duties as assigned.
  • The ideal candidate should have previous experience in virtual teaching or online education environments, demonstrating the ability to effectively engage students in a digital setting.
  • They must exhibit strong technical skills, including proficiency with a variety of educational technologies such as learning management systems (LMS), video conferencing tools, and online assessment platforms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for successful interaction with students, parents, and colleagues, and strong interpersonal skills are needed to build rapport and foster an inclusive, supportive virtual learning environment.
  • The candidate should also possess strong organizational skills to manage multiple classes, track student progress, and meet important deadlines.

  • The role also requires effective communication with parents in an online setting, including providing regular updates about student progress, upcoming assignments, and important deadlines through email or designated communication platforms.
  • The instructor should be comfortable hosting virtual meetings--whether one on one or in small groups--to discuss student performance and address concerns, while encouraging open dialogue that invites parents to share insights or ask questions.
  • Supplying resources that support at home learning, such as guides for using the LMS or links to educational websites, is also an important part of maintaining strong family engagement.
  • To enhance the virtual learning experience, the instructor should be skilled in using tools such as learning management systems like Google Classroom, Canvas, or Schoology to organize materials and facilitate communication; interactive whiteboards such as Jamboard or Miro to support collaborative learning; and video conferencing applications like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Webex to create engaging live sessions.
  • Additionally, they should utilize assessment tools such as Kahoot!, Quizizz, or Nearpod to design interactive quizzes and checks for understanding.
