About the Role:

SME has a new full-time position for a Civil Engineering CAD Technician at our office in Marietta, Georgia. The CAD Technician will report to a principal of the firm and participate in a diverse and dynamic portfolio of civil engineering projects, many of which involve innovative designs for environmentally sensitive areas. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to work closely with SME’s multidisciplinary staff on a wide variety of civil engineering assignments, including solid waste management, stormwater systems, environmental compliance and permitting, remediation, and water and wastewater systems. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are important, as this position involves frequent collaboration with internal team members and external stakeholders.


Civil Engineering CAD Technician Responsibilities:

  • Draft civil engineering plans using AutoCAD software
  • Prepare topographic survey drawings using AutoCAD
  • Assist civil engineers with permitting and regulatory documentation
  • Contact local municipalities to obtain utility atlas and infrastructure information
  • Support project teams by preparing and maintaining plans, reports, and related documentation
  • Maintain strong organizational skills to ensure tasks and deliverables remain on schedule
  • Comply with all company safety policies, practices, and procedures
  • Serve as a collaborative team member, supporting practical and efficient project solutions
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Civil Engineering CAD Technician Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD civil construction drafting software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prepare and maintain project plans, reports, documents, and procedures
  • Ability to perform assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • High school diploma plus experience in general civil design, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of drafting experience using AutoCAD or comparable software
  • Field surveying or inspection experience is a plus
