APPLICANTS MUST BE PERMANENT IN THE COMPUTER ASSOCIATE (Operations) CIVIL SERVICE TITLE
The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.
HRA/General Support Services (GSS) provides safe, healthy, and appropriate facilities for HRA's various social service programs. Its many functions include facilities planning and coordination, design and construction, renovation, repair and maintenance, custodial and other building services, health/safety program coordination, lease and property management, land use and environmental review activities, contract administration for facilities services, and warehouse operations. GSS plays a major role in HRA emergency preparedness.
General Support Services (GSS) is recruiting one (1) Computer Associate (Operations)-II to function as Senior Operator who will:
- Manage the printing of negotiable documents in the Print Pool mandated by law, to be received within 10 days, to ensure that Public Assistance Benefits are not interrupted.
- Print various Food Stamps notices, Home Energy Assistance Program notices, Fair Hearing notices, and numerous other notices to the HRA Client Population.
- Oversee the maintenance of numerous printers in the print pool which consists of two Unisys 8250 High speed laser printers, three Xerox DOCUPRINT 180 cut sheet printers, one Xerox 4110 EPS cut sheet printer, one Document 75 cut sheet MICR printer and one UNISYS UMS 1000 printer.
- Supervise the activities of the Computer Associates (Operations) Level I in the print pool; schedule production application and assist in the solution of operations and scheduling problems across multiple platforms encompassing the Unisys Mainframe, IBM Mainframe, Sun and Windows environment; maintain file update, monitor The Sun Open Views System, and the Virtual Print System.
- Monitor operation of computer systems by operating CRT consoles to determine work to be done; ensure that all jobs are initiated as scheduled and that the appropriate input files requested are mounted on appropriate peripheral device(s).

Qualifications

1. A certificate from an accredited technical school (approximately 675 hours) with a specialization in computer operations, and two years of satisfactory full-time computer operations experience, in a large-scale networked, multi- tiered, or mainframe computer environment, or two years of satisfactory data communications network experience working in a mainframe or multi-tiered computer environment; or
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and three years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in "1" above; or
3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory full-time experience as described
in "1" above; or
4. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2",or "3" above. However, all candidates must have at least two years of full-time experience as described in "1" above
