Job description

Mold Maker job at SMP Engineering. Glendale, CA.

SMP Engineering is looking for a Full-time Mold Maker.

In a nutshell, we work on the hard stuff. Our customers come to us to quickly engineer, cost-effective solutions to a wide range of technical challenges. These include product development and design to manufacturing/factory automation and everything in between. Projects like these require us to be fast and accurate since time lost getting to market reduces profits. We take these projects from the concept phase all the way to delivery of production hardware to the end customer. To do this, we are constantly looking for the best engineering talent.

Who are we looking for?
  • An innovative mold tool maker that can design complex molds using "out of the box" thinking to develop solutions for challenging injection molding projects. .Of course, we also have to be fast, fast, fast!
  • The mold maker will be responsible for making repairs or adjustments to existing molds, using precision tools and blueprints to create new molds.
  • A highly motivated self-starter that can push their project from inception all the way through to a complete, molded part. We have already demonstrated the ability to go from a solid model to molded part in two weeks.
  • A team player that can clearly and articulately communicate both with our team and our customer.
  • Familiarity with Solidworks.
Mold Maker Requirements:
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • An associate's degree in tool making or a related field may be advantageous.
  • Completion of an accredited mold making apprenticeship program may be advantageous.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in mold making or mold maintenance.
  • In-depth knowledge of computer numerically controlled machine tools, precision measurement devices, and other shop equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good active learning, time management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent manual dexterity, wrist-finger speed, and arm-hand steadiness.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision.
