Job description

Machinist 1st Shift - Chattanooga, TN / Plant 1

Role Summary 

Responsible for operating machine tools to produce precision metal parts. Produces small batches or large quantities of metal parts. Ensure products meet precise specifications.

Key Responsibilities  

  • Work from blueprints, sketches or computer-aided design (CAD), and computer-aided manufacturing (GibbsCAM) files.
  • Set up, operate, and disassemble manual, automatic, and computer-numeric controlled (CNC) machine tools, and computer-aided machine. 
  • Align, secure, and adjust cutting tools and work pieces
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines
  • Turn, mill, drill, shape, and grind machine parts to specifications
  • Use both manual and computer-controlled machinery
  • Measure, examine, and test completed products for defects
  • Smooth the surfaces of parts or products
  • Present finished work pieces to customers and makes modifications if needed
  • Operator crane and forklift. 
  • Any other duties as deemed necessary or appropriate

Knowledge and Education 

  • High school diploma/GED required with technical schooling preferred.
  • At least 1 year machinist job-related experience.
  • Experience using lathes, milling machines, and grinders, ideally within a metal stamping facility
  • Can demonstrate AutoCAD, GibbsCam programming experience.

Key Qualifications/Requirements 

  • Ability to work under pressure to meet tight timelines.
  • Clear understanding of Lean Principals & Tools
