Job description

Position Scope / Impact of Error:

Accountable to the Site Supervisor, the Operator, works with the site manager and supervisor(s), on a daily basis to ensure timely and accurate processes are followed in the preparation of our products and raw materials.

The Plant Operator, participates as an integral member of the Canada Supply Chain team and performs duties in accordance with the mandate and priorities of Scotts Canada Ltd.

Impact of recommendations, decisions and actions made by the incumbent: Low to Moderate

Position Authority:

The Plant Operator makes recommendations to the Site Supervisor (or designate) who makes the final decision.

Position Overview:

The Plant Operator is responsible for operating Powered Industrial Truck (PIT), front end loaders or other equipment to move, locate, relocate, stack, count merchandise, move around finished palleted goods including loading/unloading trucks and flatbeds, prepares organic mixes using a heavy equipment loader, pushes or relocates piles to ensure segregation of materials. Supplies production with a continuous supply of material. Monitors the stockpiles for excessive heat, turns stockpiles, extinguishes small fires and ensures the proper amount of water is used to prepare the stockpile for production use.

The Plant Operator is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle and may also be required to perform Order Filler and Checker duties

The Plant Operator may be required to work on holidays and weekends from time to time.

Specific Accountabilities:

Load, unload, move, stack, and stage product and materials using a forklift, clamp truck, front end loader, or other power equipment; Prepare organic mixes; Push or relocate piles to ensure segregation of materials; Supply production with a continuous stock of material; Monitor stockpiles for excessive heat, turns stockpiles, and extinguishes small fires; Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage; Report quality variances; Pull and prepare product for shipment, ensuring that the exact number and type of product is loaded and shipped; Perform picking duties in an efficient manner that meets customer service standards; Efficiently move product from staging and/or storage areas into trailers; Use radio frequency equipment for picking, receiving, put away, and load functions, as required; Maintain the facility's equipment and materials in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion; On a daily basis, inspect and perform minor maintenance on the PIT or other equipment; Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner following prescribed work methods; Keep appropriate records and reports to guarantee that tight inventory control and security are maintained; Assist in physical inventories; Assist in maintaining the security of the warehouse; Carry out any additional duties as assigned.

Requisite Qualifications:

Ability to work in a team; Must have at least one year experience operating a PIT or other heavy equipment; Must be able to do basic math functions such as adding, subtracting and dividing; Must be able to read and write; Must be able to complete the pre-shift inspection forms; Conduct themselves in a manner that promotes safety.
