Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
Work includes CAM Programming, set up, operating and making tool adjustments for various types of manual, numerically controlled and computerized machine shop equipment. Works from 3D Models, blueprints, and part drawings to perform production tasks, which may include the cutting and shaping of metal to precision dimensions. May communicate directly with engineers to understand the purpose of a part assembly. Checks and inspects machining operations against specified tolerances.ย 
Other duties may include:ย ย  ย 
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
โ€ขย ย  ย Read and interpret engineering drawings, production routings, layouts, and set-up sheets.
โ€ขย ย  ย Use precision measuring equipment to verify dimensional conformance of parts.
โ€ขย ย  ย Set-up and operate various classes of production CNC machines including; lathes, vertical mills, and horizontal mills.ย 
โ€ขย ย  ย Strong knowledge of cutting tools, inserts, holding fixtures and tool holders.
โ€ขย ย  ย Experience with the download and start-up of CNC programs.
โ€ขย ย  ย MUST be able to write simple to complex CNC programs at the machine and make tool offsets and adjustments as needed.
โ€ขย ย  ย MUST be proficient in various CAM programming software- i.e. CAMWorks, Fusion 360, and/or Mastercam
โ€ขย ย  ย Operate manual machine tools as needed.
โ€ขย ย  ย Provide training and assistance to other employees in the CNC machine cell.
โ€ขย ย  ย Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts.
โ€ขย ย  ย Training on studying blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
โ€ขย ย  ย Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
โ€ขย ย  ย Training on the following: Set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
โ€ขย ย  ย Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
โ€ขย ย  ย Possesses a mid-level working knowledge of other job functions within all of the Production areas.
โ€ขย ย  ย Other duties as assigned.

oย ย  ย High school diploma and at least 5 years experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. CNC Certificate or Associateโ€™s degree, preferred.

oย ย  ย Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
โ€ขย ย  ย Mathematical Skills
oย ย  ย Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
โ€ขย ย  ย Reasoning Abilityย 
oย ย  ย Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Computer-aided software will be utilized to perform this task, but the employee must have a working knowledge of all of the above responsibilities.

All employees are required to wear eye and hearing protection at all times while in the manufacturing area. Protective clothing provided by the company is to be worn at all times such as coveralls or shop jacket unless approved by management. Either steel toed or composite shoes or boots must be worn at all times.
