Here at Siemens, we take pride in enabling sustainable progress through technology. We do this through empowering customers by combining the real and digital worlds. Improving how we live, work, and move today and for the next generation! We know that the only way a business thrives is if our people are thriving. That's why we always put our people first. Our global, diverse team would be happy to support you and challenge you to grow in new ways. Who knows where our shared journey will take you?
Transform the Everyday with us!
This role will be on-site in Princeton, NJ
Start Time & Duration: 1 June 2026/ASAP to 18 Sep 2026 (flexible start + end dates)
We are seeking a Cybersecurity Research Intern to join our team in Princeton, New Jersey, for an internship. This role is ideal for a MSc or PhD student passionate about advanced robotics and applied cybersecurity. The intern will contribute to the development of a comprehensive cybersecurity research roadmap for robotic systems. As robotics, particularly humanoid robots, become increasingly integrated into industrial and commercial environments, securing these systems against cyber threats is a critical and rapidly evolving challenge.
This internship is an opportunity to gain experience at the intersection of two cutting-edge fields: advanced robotics and applied cybersecurity. The intern will work alongside experienced researchers and engineers to survey the threat landscape, identify key vulnerability domains in robotic systems, and structure a forward-looking research agenda that will guide the organization's robotics cybersecurity strategy.
This internship is offered as an on-site internship in our office in Princeton, NJ, USA. It is not offered as a remote position. Siemens benefits for interns include, beyond a competitive salary, relocation and housing allowances, among others (subject to eligibility).
The challenges and responsibilities
  • Conduct literature and market research on cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, standards, and defenses relevant to humanoid and other robotic systems (e.g., networked robots, cobot, etc.).
  • Analyze existing and emerging robotics use cases (navigation, manipulation, human-robot interaction) and identify security risks, assumptions, and open research problems.
  • Draft and maintain a structured cybersecurity research roadmap, including milestones, dependency mapping, and suggested experiments or prototypes.
  • Design and implement basic robotic use cases (e.g., task sequences, behaviors, or demos) in simulation or on physical robots to support threat modeling and "security by design" discussions.
  • Present findings in internal reviews and contribute to top-tier publications or patents.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
  • Currently enrolled full-time in a MSc or PhD program in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM field.
  • Foundational knowledge of robotics systems, including kinematics, robot operating environments, and communication architecture.
  • Hands-on experience programming robots (e.g., Python or C++ with ROS/ROS2, or vendor-specific SDKs), whether through coursework, personal projects, or research, including use case design, task automation, and interfacing with hardware APIs.
  • Completion of at least one formal course in cybersecurity (e.g., network security, information security, ethical hacking, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career or deeper study in cybersecurity, evidenced through coursework, certifications, CTF participation, self-study, or personal projects.
  • Proficient in English both written and verbal
  • Authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship for the duration of the internship

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to work on complex projects involving mathematical modeling and experimentation.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical ideas effectively.
