Job description

Job Summary:
Idaho National Laboratory is a science-based, applied engineering national laboratory dedicated to supporting the U.S. Department of Energy's mission in nuclear energy research and national defense. They are seeking a Network Engineer to configure and maintain network hardware and software, ensure network security, and troubleshoot network issues while adhering to design requirements and applicable codes.
Responsibilities:
• Configure and maintain network hardware and software, ensure network security and integrity, monitor network performance, and troubleshoot network issues.
• Decompose project objectives into defined and controlled design requirements.
• Use design methodologies, technologies, and processes which are best practice for the technical discipline to develop and define a design, and to validate that the design meets defined requirements.
• Maintain familiarity with and technical understanding of codes and standards applicable to the discipline.
• Document the design (controlled and approved models, drawings, specifications, design descriptions) to establish conformance with design requirements and applicable codes and standards.
• Establish testing, inspection, and quality requirements to ensure technical features important to design functions are maintained.
• Oversee or otherwise ensure that fabrication, construction, assembly, and procurement are done in accordance with the design.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor of Science degree in Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, Network and Security Administration, Network Engineering and Security, Computer Information Systems, or Computer Science from an accredited institution.
• EX4: Bachelor plus 9 or Masters plus 6 years of experience.
• Relevant experience commensurate with level.
• Demonstrated experience in routing and switching.
• Network training and experience in Windows, Linux, Apple, and/or OS.
• Understanding of network monitoring and relationships to cyber security
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be a US citizen and able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-clearance
Preferred:
• Cisco certifications
• Palo Alto certifications
• CompTIA Network+ and/or Security+ certifications
• Experience with TacLANEs and/or end to end network encryption methodologies.
